Thank you for the review Nick! It was a pleasure working with you and young Kaiser. What a great family pup he’s become and you are now ahead of the game with a concrete foundation on a young dog. This will serve you well when he hits the “adolescent crazies.” What a happy spirit he is, and I love his curiosity. Just the difference in the handler focus he has on you now compared to when you showed up is a night and day difference. In addition, his understanding of all the fundamentals and heeling is excellent. Gone are the days of him pulling on the leash. It’s extremely fulfilling to see that I can bring peace to a household and a harmonious relationship folks can have with their canine family members. It is my belief that every dog should have basic obedience training, but it’s extremely important if you have a multi-dog household. It was really rewarding to work hard at Jaxx’s problems, get him under obedience control to where he is easily manageable. A dog that’s rough around the edges when they show up and trained into a well-rounded, stable dog with obedience skills always seems to tug at my heartstrings. Jaxx is a great dog and knows what he needs to be doing, and you’re going to do just fine with handling him going forward, and I’ll always be there to help for the rest of all your dogs’ lives.

It’s pretty cool when you have a dog who knows what to do that’s anchored into obedience skills to where you can take him anywhere and he’ll know what to do when you ask him to do something. You did great at your go-home lesson. You and Kathryn were fully engaged in the whole process and at the go-home lesson listened, followed directions, and asked great questions. As Wilbur settles in back home and you get practice with the training tools and develop your handler skills, as you know, I’ll always be there to help for the life of the dog.

I was very happy to hear in your text to me that he’s been doing great since he’s been home and really enjoyable on your long walks with him executing obedience, and no longer pulling. It’s the kind of stuff that really makes my passion fulfilling for me. I love hearing about a dog coming home, being a better family member and how enjoyable it is for you to take your dog out and explore places. I take my hat off to you for immediately getting him into training after his adoption as I’m sure you feel was well worth it. A concrete foundation of Basic Obedience really opens up all the stuff you can do with your dog! Thank you for the kind review Jim! It’s not often you find a Chocolate Lab with the drive of a working dog. Hershey has just that and reminds me of Police Narcotics Detection Labs I used to work with. She’s a very smart dog, a fireball of energy with an excellent attitude in willingness to work. It’s rare that you have to use Drive Capping for a Chocolate Lab, but it came in handy, allowing her to recenter her mind and channel her drive. It’s rewarding when you can take a wild girl like her and teach her to put that energy into Basic Obedience skills. Her precision and execution of obedience got really good that last week. I could’ve gotten competition obedience skills out of her with more time and that level of drive! I’m sure it feels nice having her under obedience control, as I know she was a bit of a troublemaker prior to training. I’m so glad to hear that she is doing well and she’s become a great family member.
