Thank you so much for the review Beth. It was my pleasure training Timber, and the future looks bright for him in your family. As a finished young dog, I’m very proud of him, and he has got a brick house foundation. He knows what he’s supposed to be doing, and he does it well! He also knows what he’s not supposed to be doing, and he’s got a leg up in the world with this foundation as a young dog. With your consistency in the Maintenance Phase, his basic obedience will become even more deeply rooted. I take pride in being able to work well with people too; educating them on dog psychology and, most importantly, training folks to become good handlers. It made me smile so much to see your young daughter taking the leash and getting Timber under control and showing her what to do as a handler and what to do when he acts inappropriately. Training the dog is only part of it, and I’m very good at making good dog handlers. It was really cool seeing the confidence in your kiddo’s demeanor when she saw that she could get him under control. Timber will be a great part of your family!

You’ve been a proactive client, engaged in the process, and excellent at following directions. On top of that, as a student, Lauren, you’ve been outstanding, and it’s been a pleasure in turning you into an excellent handler. I’ve watched you greatly improve your skills because you’re doing the homework! What you have now is a stable, confident, levelheaded dog under control. He understands what he’s supposed to be doing because he also has a dog handler who takes it seriously, isn’t lackadaisical in managing a genetic, working line dog but also truly enjoys watching the dog develop. I look forward to starting the off-leash program with you. I also want to tip my hat to you for doing the right thing and immediately getting training for Loki. It’s serious business when you take on a working breed, particularly a high-caliber breed like a Belgian Malinois or a Dutch Shepherd. Normally, I 100% discourage people from owning these dogs if they’re not dog trainers or committed to an intense dog sport. Most people don’t have the ability to put in what’s required for this type of dog; working a 9 to 5 and expecting to fulfill the dog’s needs is just not workable for this breed. Having said that, Loki is a very stable and calm dog, which is rare as far as Malinois go and even more so now that he can anchor into his obedience skills. I’ve also built you into a solid handler, which is critical with this breed. Great job on your commitment!

It was a lot of fun training Sophie.<br>She is a fireball of energy, and I was glad that I was able to channel it into excellent basic obedience for you. Her basic obedience skills are outstanding as a finished product, and she was so happy to show off her skills. With a little more time, I could've gotten competition obedience out of her with a focused heel and fancy footwork that I was starting to develop towards the end for fun. She frequently cracked me up, and I know that she will keep you folks young at heart. She's going to have a great life. Have fun!

It’s deeply rewarding building a concrete foundation of Basic Obedience in tandem with the behavioral modification program on a dog with some behavioral issues. As I’ve heard directly from you, you realize not only does it allow you to have control of your dog with your words having meaning when you ask her to do something, but you also have a stronger bond in communication with your dog! Ellie is a great dog, and her before and after is why I love doing what I do. Ellie will do just fine with the instructions and plan we went over in the go-home lesson, and you know as well, I’ve got you anytime you need me for the rest of her life.
