  • Obedience training
    Program details

Through our personalized training program, you will gain a confident, obedient, and well-mannered dog. Your dog will simply learn to listen to your first command.

Proper obedience training doesn’t mean changing the dog’s personality, energy, or drive. It does mean getting control of the dog. Dogs are both social creatures and pack animals. As such, you need to be the one who is in control, not your dog.

Socialization classes are an important part of dog training. They provide a way for puppies and young dogs to learn how to interact with other dogs and people in a positive way. Socialization classes typically involve a lot of supervised playtimes.

I cannot say enough about the wonderful work they do at K-9 Basics!!! The entire staff is exceptional and I highly recommend their training programs. Our dog Ollie, a Cavachon, recently graduated from their Board and Train Program. As a first time dog owner, I turned to K-9 Basics originally for help with basic training. They have gone above and beyond and exceeded my expectations!!! They not only train dogs to be obedient, they truly care about each and every dog that is under their care. His trainer, Nicole, was nothing but wonderful!! At first I was nervous to leave Ollie but Nicole made me feel comfortable throughout the entire process. I received updates and even pictures (which my kids enjoyed!) during his stay. She kept me informed about his progress and I knew he was in good hands. The training that she does is amazing!!! Not only does Ollie follow commands with ease but he follows them even in the most distracting situations. I am blown away at what was accomplished in a relatively short amount of time. I never thought it was possible to have such an obedient dog!! His training has helped me as well. I am a much more confident dog owner thanks to K-9 Basics! Prior to his training, I never felt comfortable enough to bring Ollie with me many places for fear that he wouldn’t listen. Now I proudly bring him with me to many events, from social functions to soccer games, without a single worry! I am extremely confident in his behavior, I was never able to say that before he trained at K-9 Basics. I am grateful to the entire staff for all of their efforts, attention, and care that Ollie always receives when he spends time at their training facility all while learning to be a great dog! Since his boarding, Ollie has also spent time at their kennel facility as well as in the doggie daycare. I can honestly say that he loves it there! As soon as we round the bend and he recognizes the road - he is beyond excited! I always know he’s going to have a great “vacation” when he’s there. Everyone there, the owners, the trainers, the reception desk, the kennel staff, the groomers - all truly care about the dogs in their care and it shows! It truly is a wonderful place!!! We love it and Ollie loves it as well! Thank you K-9 Basics!!!

We started taking our Samoyed puppy to K-9 Basics when he was 17 weeks old. He was a pretty well-behaved dog to begin with, but K-9 basics has really helped him reach his full potential in terms of obedience and discipline. The instructors have a lot of experience, and that is reflected in how well-run the classes are. There are usually somewhere from 10-15 other dogs at each lesson. This is one of the most important things in my mind, as the dogs are trained to obey all commands despite surrounding distractions. Classes are offered at least 3 times per week, and you can go whenever it's convenient for you. Our puppy is now 9 1/2 months, and is doing great. He recently graduated, having passed the comprehensive test which required him to obey all commands while off-leash. Now when we go to class, he does all of his training off-leash. Despite the fact that he's graduated, we plan on continuing to take him to class indefinitely. The training was a big investment, but given how much we invested in our dog to begin with, combined with the fact that this is training for the life of your dog, I would do it again in a second. Based on my experience, I really believe that anybody who brings their dog to training consistently, pays attention, and continues to train their dog at home, will be amazed at how quickly their dog progresses. That's what we did, and we couldn't be happier with our incredibly obedient Samoyed.

My experience with K9 basics was truly amazing. My dog Bailey is a 2 year old Australian Shepard/Blue Healer mix, and true to her breed, she is quite the handful. Like many other dog owners, I took my dog to a basic obedience training at a local pet store. Needless to say, that type of training did not work well for my dog. Around me and one or two other people, Bails was great! In less of course someone came to the door, or she heard something outside, or we decided to go on a walk and a person would come in viewing range or a car would drive by. The daily care of my pooch turned into an exhausting effort, and the stress really started to take its toll. After much internet research, I came across K9 Basics. Going to the Demo and Evaluation was the best decision I have made for my dog since adopting her. I was very nervous about sending her for the board and train at first, bails is a very high anxiety creature, and I thought she would spend more time afraid then actually training. That was most certainly not the case. The trainers took her one step at a time, gaining her trust, working with her on any concern that I brought up and some that they noticed on their own. By the time I picked her up, they knew the little expressions and nuances that I never noticed, and those things have helped me to become a better pet owner. My dog and I have an amazing relationship now, and I truly get to enjoy what it’s like to have not just a dog, but a companion. Best of all, other people now get to experience it too!! I can’t express how thankful I am for all of the hard work the Team at K9 Basics put in. I will be returning in the future without question!!

I started the K9 Basics group classes with my rescued pit bull Lucy, but because of health/mobility problems, ended up having her go to the board and train program. Best decision I have made in a long time! Carol and all of the trainers are true animal lovers and total professionals in their field. Lucy had never been in a kennel before, but I was immediately at ease when I walked into the homey and friendly atmosphere at Clif Wyck Kennels. Lucy often used to lunge at trucks and buses while we walked (also at cats, bicycles, some dogs, joggers etc.) She has come home and we are now able to walk calmly and confidently. She has also stopped trying to jump through the window when the UPS truck comes. (all delivery people must feel gratitude to K9 Basics!) I have to use a cane now and Carol and Brian gave me good suggestions for walking Lucy safely. Lucy was also having a problem with some aggression towards our baby granddaughter and Brian gives us great advice about dog-baby safety. I unreservedly recommend K9 Basics because everyone who works there knows and loves dogs, they are very professional and respond quickly to any concerns or questions, and they have helped improve the quality of my life with Lucy!
