Island Dog Obedience

Our trainer, Raisa, at Island Dog Obedience, was amazing. We left our 2 dogs with her for 2 weeks, and now they have been back home for about 2 weeks and are behaving, much better. One of our dogs needed help with being overly aggressive toward people and other dogs and is much better now (although we are still working on it a bit). Our second dog needed help being more polite and barking less. Especially through fences at other dogs. They both have improved dramatically, and our quality of life has gone up ever since we put our faith and time in island dog obedience. Lastly, it should be mentioned that they have fielded a few questions from us since we picked them up from training, and it has been very useful.

We sent timber to the two week board and train program with Ryan. Timber is so great at listening now! It is a lot of keeping up with the training provided but Timber was so much better behaved and listens so much better after this training. It was so worth the money spent especially since we did it over a vacation anyway so we would've had to board him and this way he was getting good training at the same time! Definitely would recommend to other dog owners!

Finn learned a great deal during his stay with Raisa .. and came home ready to show off .. and also test me. I failed a few times but we both kept on .. adhering to Raisa’s detailed instructions. Finn is a different dog .. enjoying walks in the park and going to restaurants. Still challenged with being alone however we continue to work on that. For a 7 year old ‘rescue’ with limited sight and lots of ‘baggage’ Raisa was able to help him feel more comfortable around people and neighborhood dogs. Mahalo Raisa!!

We had an incredible experience with Raya, our dog trainer! Our 18-month-old Goldendoodle struggled with severe separation anxiety and barked at everyone. Raya’s in-home training sessions were amazing. She was patient, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to helping our dog. Thanks to her expertise, our dog is now much calmer and more confident. I cannot recommend Maria and Island Dog Obedience enough! Maria and her associate trainers, particularly Emily, are amazing. I think a little background would be helpful. I have never owned a dog and I am in my mid-50s. My wife does not and has never liked dogs. So, I have been working on my wife to get a dog for decades. I finally wore her down so off we went to the Humane Society to look at dogs. Of all of the dogs at the Humane Society, one caught our eye. She was sweet natured, shy and a bit scared but super beautiful and had really deep eyes. She was a stray who was left on the side of the road in Kahuku. Her name is Fiona. Fiona was not potty trained and frankly was not accustomed to any indoor living situation. I knew that Fiona was too much for my family to handle without some help. I fortunately found Maria. She was immediately so informative and helpful. She came to meet me at the Humane Society to evaluate Fiona to determine whether Fiona has the potential to be a good dog. Maria even brought her own dog to see how Fiona interacted with other dogs. Due to Maria’s positive feedback, we adopted Fiona but we let Maria board and train Fiona for nearly 3 weeks. And then Fiona arrives home! She’s an incredibly well-behaved dog (at 10 months old). She follows all basic commands, is house trained, does not nip and her anxiety is 1000% less than when we first met her at the Humane Society. Most importantly, Fiona is super loving. Fiona is a true delight thanks to Maria and Island Dog Obedience. We also travel a lot and Island Dog Obedience is available to board Fiona when we are off-island. It is very clear that Fiona loves Maria – so Maria is both a trainer and a caregiver with love and affection. We feel very blessed to have found Maria and Island Dog Obedience.
