About Intelligent K9 Dog Training

Teaching family dog obedience, great listening, and great manners is what we do! There is no reason for any dog owner to put up with unwanted behaviors. Letting unwanted behaviors and even mild annoyances go unchecked leads to stress and resentment. That’s not why we get dogs! We get dogs because we want more enjoyment out of life and we want to share that enjoyment with our companion. To give our dog the best life possible, they need to be education on how to listen to you and on the basic rules and boundaries of life. That way, they have great manners, no nuisance behaviors, and are enjoyable to be around. In our Richmond-based training, we teach and train the dog’s owner so you can develop the right knowledge and skills.

Training goals

  • Behavior consultation
    Program details

Behavior modification is nothing if we don't shift the dog's mentality. If your dog doesn't listen how you want or tries to avoid doing the things you ask, this "opposing" mentality will only hurt your relationship in the long run. By providing the right stuff you can have your dog "want" to listen

  • House training
  • Leash training
    Program details

Your arm workouts are best done at the gym and not on the walk. With the right technique, you can have your dog walking calmly at your side everywhere you go, even around distractions!

  • Obedience training
    Program details

Not only do we teach obedience but we also teach the other components that lead to a long-term healthy lifestyle for both you and your dog. A healthy lifestyle means that you enjoy your dog and do NOT deal with conflict and frustration, including mild annoyances...and your dog respects you.

Behavior support

  • Aggression training
  • Fear and confidence
    Program details

Insecurity is the most common unbalanced mental state we deal with as dog trainer consultants. Insecurity can manifest into fearful behaviors such as avoidance, flight response, or even biting and fear-based aggression.

  • Reactivity training
  • Resource guarding
    Program details

Resource guarding is a primal behavior often innate to the dog but can be dangerous unless taught otherwise. No pet dog should guard items, space, people, or food in the household whether it be from other humans, kids, or dogs. It just isn't safe to let this behavior go unchecked.

  • Separation anxiety
    Program details

Separation anxiety is an unbalanced mental state. A few factors that contribute to this are unhealthy attachment, insecurity, lack of rules and boundaries, lack of structure and guidance, etc.

Before coming to CJ, our family had 2 crazy boxers. We knew they’d be high energy, but as they grew it was so difficult for me to walk them by myself. They would often drag me, fight each other, and if they saw another dog…forget it. It was really embarrassing. Inside the house they’d often wrestle, jump on our couches (I was constantly cleaning the dog smell out), run around, jump on the counter to get food, it was crazy. I couldn’t manage on my own, so we sought out a trainer. At first we wanted to board and train. But after talking to CJ, we realized that wouldn’t benefit us as we wouldn’t be apart of the process or understand WHY things happen or the philosophy behind the mentality of our dogs. We finished all 7 sessions. I have to say by session 4 so much had drastically changed for the better. By the last session our life is completely different. Our dogs obey our commands. We can let the run around in our yard off leash with no problems. They stay in one spot when we ask them to, even during meal times. They no longer go after other dogs, get on our couches, wrestle in the house, none of it. They know our rules, standards, and boundaries. We are at the point where we can take them anywhere and they are fine. Thanks CJ for taking us on and helping integrate our pups into our life!

Before this program I walked my dog but was increasingly afraid of getting hurt by all of her pulling. We had to go where she wanted and if she didn't get her way she would just lay down in the street! Seeing a squirrel or cat was a nightmare. Now...WOW!..only 2 sessions into this program with CJ and I am enjoying walking. I am "driving" instead of the dog. No more scary pulling. She goes where I go without any problems. After only the first 2 sessions I feel like I have gotten my money's worth! Cannot wait to see what is next!

The behaviors of our Pointer mix have improved significantly even after one session with CJ. Now that her individual training sessions are over she no longer pulls the leash when we walk her and immediately sits when we stop. She also does not get overly excited and jump on people near her. She can ignore other dogs and distractions including children. She behaves at home sitting in her place when instructed. She also comes when called during play time in our back yard. All of the above were problematic for us before we met CJ. We will miss our individual sessions with him and are looking forward to the group sessions. We could tell our dog Ivy enjoyed CJ’s training as well. In addition, CJ trained us in how to handle every situation.

I would highly recommend CJ and the Intelligent K9 Dog Training company. He is the best trainer I have worked with since I purchased my Rottweiler. He is almost 5 years old and weighs around 150lbs. I have been with several trainers since he was eight weeks old. CJ was the best one by far. Not only does he know his stuff, but he is the first trainer that broke everything down and explained the science behind his methods so that you can shape your training to any scenario. He doesn’t just teach the basic commands but instead works with you in real time experiences so you can know how to react and know how to get your dog to react in right manner. Using what I learned, I am better position to understand any situation and learn how to train my dog in that situation. Thanks CJ for all your help. If we ever have another dog, we will be back for more. SemperFi!!

It's been such an eye opener to take my dog Mocha to Intelliget K9 Dog Training. Mocha was such a trial to get her to stop her barking and carrying on. No matter what I did or said, she wouldn't listen, she would keep charging at people at our door, or walking down the street. I was afraid someone was going to get hurt. It didn't take much time at all before we could tell that CJ, knew his stuff. Now we are so happy how things are going. Mocha was around 15 other dogs, and I was so glad we took her to CJ for help. So if your not happy with your fur baby get a hold on CJ, you'll be as happy as we are .
