Hi C.W., I'm so sorry to hear you were so concerned with the heat that day. I wish you had raised this concern at the time, instead of leaving this review. Your classmates and I were *wondering* why you left and hoping you were okay. We are very clear in our description of our K9 Nose Work classes that the only prerequisite of this class is that your dog be able to wait in the car quietly until it's their turn to run. That's how the structure of ALL Nose Work classes and trials work, all over the world. It's on our website, on the registration system when you schedule, and in the email confirmation you get when you sign up. I honestly don't know how we could have communicated this more clearly. That class is intentionally held in the evenings on Fridays, so that the shade of the building is over the parking lot and there's plenty of parking. I don't know why your dog would be in the full sun, but if he was, it's because you parked him there. The air temperature was hot that day, so the very first thing we did in class, before doing anything else, was discuss the dogs' safety in the car and make sure they would be comfortable. I taught the class (demonstrating on my car) how to put it in "dog mode" by setting the climate control, then locking the doors from the outside. If you didn't want to bother to lock the doors, that's probably okay - the training center is in a very safe area and you and your classmates would be going in and out to and from the parking lot constantly once we got going - we've never had an issue at all. If your air conditioning was broken, that's okay, too - that happened to one of your classmates, actually, and I set up a crate in the lobby for her dog. At any rate, after we did a quick lesson on how to keep our dogs safe and comfortable, everyone took a few minutes to situate their dogs with a/c and water, and we began class. I understand the concern over dogs in hot cars - really, I do, a car is basically an oven in the right conditions - but in this case, your dog was never in any danger. I and many of our trainers do Nose Work with our own dogs as well, and we'd never recommend you do anything dangerous - much less do it to our own dogs. I honestly don't know how we could have communicated this policy more clearly or put more effort into making sure the dogs were comfortable and safe at all times.
