Fortunate K9 Dog and Owner Training

Fortunate K9 exceeded all my expectations. I adopted Sophie, a standard poodle, three months ago. Before adopting her I visited quite few schools in Cambridge and Boston and was not so happy with what I saw. Then, I noticed in a Doberman rescue forum so many people suggested Fortunate K9 – it’s an hour drive from home, but I decided to try – I audited a drop-in class and immediately realized that this is the school for us. Sophie was a very nervous dog; she was afraid of everything and everybody. When I got her she didn’t know any commands and was so difficult to walk. We took obedience 101 and a few drop-in classes with Rick Froton. Rick understands dogs and human behavior so well. His classes prepare the dogs and people for real life challenges. I do not believe this is the same dog. She is confident and so well behaved! I take her everywhere with me and people stop me and ask how did I get my dog so well behaved and it’s not even three months passed since we started the training.

My dog Oliver recently trained at the Boarding school this fall. He has since been to a few drop-ins, and continued on-going training with me at home. The foundation work Rick instilled in Oliver was immediately evident, as seeing is believing. Upon returning to me, my dog was calmer, more focused, and more confidant. These three key elements started the spark which has since resulted in a steady, positive change and progression in both myself, Oliver and our relationship. He is less reactive, looks to me as his leader, and I in turn am able to be the leader as I now have the knowledge and tools to make the turn around happen. Oct. 29, 2013 I can not say enough about the board and train program at Fortunate K9 Dog and Owner Training. I recently injured my leg and wasn't able to walk and train my 9 mos old rescue dog, Ziva. We had completed puppy and obedience training with Rick and were attending the drop-in classes where we were making good progress so not being able to continue the training with my 70lb puppy was very stressful for me. Rick mentioned taking Ziva for board and train and I will be forever grateful! I knew Ziva would be well cared for and well trained. My biggest fear was that she would be obedient with Rick but not with me. Before I could mention that fear Rick told me that Jen would also be training her so that Ziva could get a woman's voice in her head, too. Rick kept me informed through emails about Ziva and her progress. When I got Ziva home I couldn't believe she was the same puppy that I had left with Rick. She was much calmer and 100% more obedient. On our daily walks people stop and mention how well she walks with me and how well she is trained. She is a joy to walk with! I am not saying that she doesn't have her moments at home, as she is still a puppy, but when those moments do occur she is much quicker to "pull it together" with the obedience commands both she and I learned. Rick's expertise, his dedication, his kindness and concern for both dog and owner is unsurpassed. How fortunate I am, a dog owner for the very first time, to have found Fortunate K9 Dog and Owner Training.

Last spring my wife and I decided to move forward with adopting a Doberman. Early on in our "research phase" I emailed Julia to ask her some questions. Although I had previous dogs, this would be my first Doberman. She was great in giving me very detailed responses and suggestions. When we finally got our 90lb male (that had been returned twice before we got him), I immediately called up FK9 and got him enrolled in the 6week class with Rick. We had several other dogs in the class, including a very small dog and a pit mix. We started out at the very beginning, continuing on to heel, sit, stay, and come. The main focus of all of these was to have the dog pay attention to the owner. It was amazing how fast our dobe picked up proper behavior. I get comments all the time on how obedient he is when walking him in downtown Manchester. Although this was a group class, it was still small enough (3 or 4 dogs) so that Rick could give each dog individual attention, when required. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Fortunate K9 to anyone looking to get a better relationship with their dog.
