Downtown Dog in the Country

Jessica Cargill of Downtown Dog in the Country has been exactly the trainer we needed for our dog Murtie. Utilizing her background in animal behavior and her copious experience with canines, she employs direct and practical methods to effectively train, retrain, or behaviorally rewire dogs. She also explains what she is doing so that you can effectively work with your dog going forward. Murtie was a year-old rescue when we got him, and has fear-based dog reactivity. Through direct exposure to other dogs in a controlled environment, she has been able to cut down on a lot of his anxiety in these situations; this in turn has allowed him to be receptive to our commands in these moments. Taking Murtie on a walk through the neighborhood is now so much less stressful!

Jessica did AMAZING work with my dog! Before I sent Scout to Jessy, he was a nightmare. He wouldn't listen, would run off, was terrible on the leash, was reactive toward children, and I couldn't take him anywhere he was a maniac. But a couple weeks of board and train with Jessy fixed all that and we was a dream dog. He was so much easier to handle and would actually follow my commands and walk nice on the leash and his child reactivity was gone. Sending my Scout to Downtown Dog in the Country was the best decision I made for him and made life with him totally wonderful. He passed away a month ago but I am so thankful for Jessy and all she did for him!

I absolutely can’t say enough positive things about Jessica at Downtown Dog in the Country. My 2 year old dog, Macy, went through her board and train program earlier this summer. She transformed my dog. Macy arrived at training unable to walk on a leash, jumping on anyone she came in contact with, reactive (excitement) towards all other animals, and all around un-trained. The dog I have today is a well-trained, polished version of her old self. She walks in a perfect heal, doesn’t jump on guests, listens to me when other animals are present and allows them to pass calmly, and so much more. Jessica built a foundation for years of successful training by giving Macy and myself a new way to effectively communicate with each other. The support doesn’t stop once the board and train program is over, either. Jessica offers a free weekly 1 on 1 session as well as a group training session with other dogs who have also completed the board and train program. These lessons, coupled with the initial training Macy received this summer, have helped us put our new skills into practice together. My parents also sent their puppy to Jessica right after he got his last round of puppy shots, and she sent him home house trained, crate trained, and with beginner-level obedience training as a months-old puppy. Whether your dog is years or months old, I confidently recommend Downtown Dog in the Country. I will use Jessica for any dogs I have in the future.
