Dogability Dog Training

The other day I took Banjo to Petco. Every single person in the store commented on how well trained he is. This was not the case before we met Juan. We had called Pet Wagon for help with dog walking. Maria came to meet Banjo and, after listening to a list of Banjo's behavioral "quirks", suggested that he might benefit from a stay at Dogability. This is a dog who had graduated from three other training programs and was still out of control. After a month month Juan we feel comfortable taking Banjo out in public and are able to entertain again. Banjo's training occurred during our summer vacation. Juan and Maria responded promptly to all of our texts and emails and sent us video evidence of our boy's progress. We felt completely comfortable that he was well cared for by their team. Banjo has come home obedient beyond the specific commands Juan taught him, he has come to understand his place in our household. It is a beautiful thing to watch our spirited one year old 75 pound dog be walked by our 45 pound six year old. Juan's techniques are fair and understandable tot he dogs. Banjo knows when he can be playful and mischevious and when it is time to get down to work. Thanks Juan!

Whether you have a puppy with no training or an out of control dog who needs more training, Dogability and Juan Galvis do it the RIGHT way. Anyone can train your dog to sit or stay or go to a "place" and can do it in a short period of time - this does not always produce a reliably trained dog and at times is done with very stressful methods. Juan takes the extra time to establish a system of learning that is fair and super clear for the dog. It is easy to learn and based on well established principles of animal behavior and he takes the time to explain things to you and teach you his methods. In 4 weeks, Juan empowered me and helped me learn how to control my serious, high-drive working dog. The result is truly remarkable. Not only do I have a dog who does his job extremely well, but I have a wonderful relationship with my dog based on trust and respect. Juan is extremely professional and passionate about dog training and does it for the right reasons.

I had done much research as I needed some help to train my 2 yr old hound/lab Lola. I was a new dog owner so I was did a lot of research and tried other training types. We first had 1:1 session with two different dog trainers but they were just for adhoc issues and didn't get us very far. Then we tried obedience classes, those were okay for general commands in a non-distracting environment. Lola was obedient but I still had issues following commands with distractions, walking nicely on leash and also she was a fearful dog . She loves to smell/track, which I first thought it was "just the hound in her" but learned from Juan that she displaced her fear into tracking. I found it very frustrating that tracking overroad any of my commands. That was of course until I met Juan and had Lola attend 4 weeks of training at Dogability. After meeting and speaking with Juan, it gave me hope that I could better handle Lola. Since Lola was fearful and I was unsure, we needed more hands on training. Juan is very knowledgeable, committed, passionate and took such great care of my Lola. Was it worth it? YES!!! Let me tell you, everyday when Lola and I go for walks around the neighborhood I am so grateful to Juan for working with Lola and teaching me the techniques to make our life together so much better. I used to get frustrated on walks as I still couldn't control though I tried with other trainers. I am so glad that I decided to try one more time to fix the problem. We still have some minor things to work out but we can go for a 3 mile hike at Umpstead together with no issues and to me this is priceless. My only regret is that I wish I had learned about dogability sooner to not waste time and money on the other methods that did not work.

Juan and Dogability have definitely changed our lives! Pablo (our pit-hound mix) attended Juan's one month training program and he came back a different pup! Pablo is an alumni of 6 months now and he is still holding strong on all that he learned. Pablo's major problems were pulling on the leash on walks and jumping on people. It got to the point where we disliked taking him on walks. Now, we take him on trail runs and hikes with no problem. Not to mention, we get compliments constantly on how well-behaved he is. He even listens to commands at the dog park! We were definitely a little hesitant at first to ship him off but it was well worth the heartache :) Juan sent us weekly reports on his progress as well as videos. It was always amazing to see that this was OUR dog whenever we watched the videos. The last week of Pablo's training consisted of Juan training both my partner and I. Since my partner and I are both in healthcare our schedules weren't the most conducive but Juan was absolutely flexible on scheduling. Pablo loves when he has a chance to see Juan. We even played a training video Juan sent us of Pablo after Pablo was home and he was stoked to hear Juan's voice! Juan and his wife, Maria, (the owner of the pet wagon) are both fabulous people. There aren't enough nice words to say about them. Maria walks Pablo at least 3 times a week using Juan's training methods. Even Maria comments on how well Pablo has kept up on his training. They will both treat your dogs as if they are their own. I highly recommend using Dogability and/or Maria's pet walking/sitting and now new hotel/daycare, the pet wagon hotel on old chapel hill road in Durham. I have recommended Juan to 2 other friends and they were both very pleased with his expertise as well :)

Juan is an exceptional trainer who will get the most out of your dog quickly. Our dog Bernie just finished basic obedience and we couldn't be happier. He was able to teach her in a month what it would've taken us a couple of years to do. He keeps the dog for one month and spends the last 5 days teaching you how to continue the training which is probably the most critical part of the whole process. If you don't believe he's a gifted trainer, ask him for a demo with one of his Belgian Malinois and you'll be a believer. Thanks Juan!
