Dog U

We've been taking our dog to daycare and boarding with Dog U since moving to Birmingham four years ago. As a puppy, he could NOT be trusted alone all day while we were at work so sending him to daycare was the best option for us. Our dog loves going here and doesn't even look back when we drop him off. The owners Tyler and Calvin have done an amazing job with Dog U. The staff is always super friendly and helpful(love Abbie) and makes sure your dog is taken care of. Our dog is older now so he can stay home alone but we still board him here frequently and do daycare while he's there. Pricing for daycare and boarding is very reasonable but honestly, Dog U is priceless and we wouldn't take our dog anywhere else. They post pictures on Facebook daily of the dogs playing so you can relax knowing your dog is probably having way more fun than you :)

Overall, I really like this place. They take good care of my dog and he always seems happy when I pick him up. They also have been able to fit my dog in for last minute availability. However, last time I boarded him I was charged more than the first time I boarded my dog for the same visit - they charged me for administering a medicine I brought and for the playtime he had the morning he got picked up. I thought I was only paying for the two nights of boarding, and thought picking him up at 9am was reasonable, but apparently they go out for playtime in the morning on the day of discharge and you can be charged for that. I'd rather them take good care of my dog and give him the playtime, but I just wish I knew what I'd be paying beforehand because I expected to be charged the same amount as my first visit. My advice is just to get clarification on pricing and when they'll take your dog out for playtimes. But either way, your dog is definitely in good hands here.

First time at DogU boarding for 5 nights, and it truly was a disappointment. I really wanted it to go better than it did. My pup is not very social with dogs and gets very anxious in boarding facilities, however, we had to board him for our out of town wedding to ensure he stayed safe. Upon boarding, I reached out 3 separate times requesting more info about their facility and how they handle dogs that don’t love other dogs…I had to call a fourth time to finally receive a call back to give me more info from one of their trainers. I chalked that up to them being busy, however, upon dropping him off the night before leaving for my wedding, they had no record of his stay and that made me very nervous from the start. After 5 nights, we picked our baby up and they had to put me on hold twice to pull his info, and locate him. That also seemed very odd, they should have been able to get his info MUCH quicker and not wait 20 mins just to find him. The worst part, they mixed up another dogs medication and MY dog received a medication for 3 days that WAS NOT prescribed to him. After much confusion they said they were sorry and that it was “busy on Saturday's”. Although I believe in human error, there were way too many mistakes for me to EVER trust this facility with my dog. We were lucky the medication did not hurt our pup, but could you imagine if it did? OR hurt the other dog by not receiving the medication for 3 days?! I expect better. I would expect more than just an apology for such mistakes made. I would never recommend this facility to anyone.
