We recently completed the process of obtaining a diabetic alert dog for my daughter and couldn’t be more pleased with Diabetic Alert Dogs of America. From the very beginning the office Administrator JoAnne spent a long time on the phone with me explaining the process in detail and what to look for in a DAD dog/company even before there was a formal agreement. Along the way there was through communication and everyone I interacted with was very passionate about their job, quick to return messages and truly cared. We received weekly updates with pictures and updates on Angel and how she was doing in training. The delivery process of our dog was very smooth, Ed took great care in explaining how to handle Angel and exhibited great patience toward my teenage daughter. He worked well with my daughter’s school to ensure a smooth transition there as well. We feel very comfortable with my daughters dog and are pleased at how well she is alerting my daughter for her blood sugars. If we need any advice or help going forward I feel confident that they are just a phone call or text away. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a Diabetic Alert dog.

Thank you for providing us with the security of knowing our daughter has a trusted companion. We have had Thor for over a year now and we could not be more pleased with him. Thor is a large German Shepard. We also have a Golden Retriever and small terrier in the house. When Thor puts on his vest he knows he is working and somehow has invisible blinders on because his devotion to my daughter is undeniable. It took a few months for us all to adjust to having a very big dog added to our family, and for my daughter to adjust to having a dog full time, always with her, wherever she goes. But I am happy to say it works! She takes Thor to college in the apartments on campus about 80% of the time. We have Thor at our house about 20% of the time. Having the other two dogs around him, Thor has become a little more of a “family dog”, and the other two have become more behaved because of him. But when he puts on that vest he switches back into an alert dog and can’t wait to follow my daughter around. Somehow the trainer trained the natural “dog” out of Thor when he is wearing his vest, so his instincts like chasing a bunny that hops in front of him while on a walk, those instincts are gone. We do keep up with his training, like giving him treats every single time he alerts our daughter. We also don’t let him get too rowdy with the other dogs. Thor alerts my daughter for lows and highs and is very accurate, to the point where he can tell if she is on her way up or down even before Dexcom goes off. Bottom line, our lives are very different from when we did not have Thor. We know he is alerting her day and night 24/7, and that comfort is worth every single penny.
