Diabetic Alert Dogs of America

I HIGHLY recommend D.A.D.A to any and all diabetics! I had originally purchased my dog through a different trainer who said he was “trained” to be a DAD but was really only trained to be a public access service dog. I called DADA and explained my situation. They were so helpful, understanding, and were also very honest and up front with their process/ requirements, which it made it so easy to communicate with them! They do an AMAZING job at documenting your DAD’s journey and include video so you can practice! My trainer was Shelby, and I would trust her with any of my animals! She was so gentle, understanding, and informative throughout the entire process. Whenever I had questions, she responded in a timely and respectful manner. She helped my dog who had severe anxiety, turn into a confident DAD. Everyone who I came in contact with that works at DADA, are so respectful and nice! 💯

Let me start off by saying when I first started to look into DADs and this company I had some concerns. With talking to them and learning more about alert dogs in general they truly are great. I even became so skeptical I had my coworker who used to train alert dogs look into the dog I was considering. She was impressed as was I. You don't see many chocolate labs that can focus, especially not in a veterinary setting 🤣 they tried their best to work with me and I appreciate every minute of their time, and if I were able to afford it I would and if my finances change will 100 percent use diabetic alert dogs of america. For reference, no they did not me. I'm a veterinary professional with experience in positive reinforcement training. You can look me up I'm real. And my heart is a little broken it wasn't something I could do right now. Updated: turns out it's something I am able to do with the help of their amazing staff. I'm very excited about this process and they have been helpful and attentive every step of the way. I can't wait for my DAD to come home. Sample collection process was easy and a nice consideration on the company's part. It's nice to know my DAD will be trained using my scent and better setting me up for success. Update: again sorry. I truly wanted to leave another review so just know I give them 10 out of 5 stars Well... I went into this knowing a little bit about alert dogs but it has been different than I ever could have dreamed. The dog they delivered me has far exceeded their 80 percent top end accuracy. In a total of 2 weeks he's only missed 3 alerts. I average 4 to 6 alerts a day, not including scent games and some days even more. I've reached my 1st 100 percent in range ever and I feel better than I have in a long time. He alerts before my cgm has even caught onto what's happening that extra 20 mins ahead is life changing. His public access skills are great, keep in mind no creature is perfect, but he's pretty close we still are trying to sync on heels and as he gets more comfortable he likes to test my leave it's (he still does leave it he just takes a step to make sure I'm sure that's what I want 🤣). The staff has all been amazing, accommodating caring. I can honestly say they have your best interest in mind. My delivery trainer was fabulous, took things at my speed encouraged when I wanted to take the reigns. I don't normally leave second reviews or do updates, but this was worth it. Do it.

I received my DAD a week and a half ago. My blood sugar control already shows marked improvement as he alerts me as I'm going out of range rather than my previous issues with not realizing I was out of range until it was much worse. The staff of Diabetic Alert Dogs of America is highly responsive, helpful and interested in success for the service dog and handler. I was especially impressed and grateful for the trainer, Jasmine, who delivered Ren. 'In home installation' is a fantastic service. Ren is everything promised. Extremely intelligent, highly trainable, and good natured. Still a puppy (11 months) and new to me, firm corrections to maintain training are necessary. However, he is adapting to my expectations and life patterns. I have full faith that he will mellow and need fewer corrections as he matures and adjusts. I have already successfully taught him three new commands and we are working on a fourth. I have to be careful not to accidently teach him things like opening the freezer might mean a scent game is happening - he's so attentive to me, it's hard to be sneaky about setting these up. Highly recommend to any diabetic who needs help catching out of range blood sugars.
