Wonderful experience with trainer Emma. My golden doodle returned after the three week board and train a completely different dog in the best way. I am so glad that we went with Command Canine!

Questions & answers
From GoogleWhat people have asked about this business.
What dog training methods do you use?
Positive reinforcement first—food, play, enrichment—then fair boundaries and interrupters as needed. For behavior cases, we layer in counter-conditioning, desensitization, and stress-management protocols.
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
What is your policy on refunds or guarantees for your training services?
Your dog's behavior is extremely complex and guaranteeing results is unethical. Any trainer who gives you a guarantee of specific results is giving you a red flag, not peace of mind. Guaranteeing specific results usually means they are coercing your dog into complying or addressing symptoms of behaviors versus addressing underlying needs and emotions. This is usually done by force, fear, or quick fixes that don’t last. That’s not how we operate. Here’s what we do guarantee: You will see progress. We promise. We will treat both you and your dog as individuals and tailor your plan to fit your needs and lifestyle. We will give you the tools and guidance to build better habits, confidence, and manners. We will give you the tools and guidance to correct and prevent problem behaviors. We’ll be honest about what’s possible, what it will take, and how to get there. We’ll support you every step of the way. We won't leave you hanging.

Will online dog training really work for my dog?
Yes. Live video sessions mirror our in-home lessons and include real-time coaching, homework, and video feedback. Perfect for clients outside North Carolina or on tight schedules.
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
Who can join Group Classes?
Group Classes are only available to current or former Command Canine clients who have completed a Private Lesson Package or Board & Train Program. This ensures every dog has the foundation to succeed.
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
Can you train puppies and older dogs?
Absolutely. Dogs of any age can learn; we simply adjust the pace and rewards accordingly.

What makes Command Canine different from other dog trainers?
We utilize the Mind & Manners Method, a relationship-based approach that combines obedience training and behavior modification. It targets why a behavior happens first so results stick and dogs become calm, confident companions. We’re also the training team behind the Keeper & Kin Project—the only program in North America specializing in the rehabilitation of former research beagles. These dogs have never had a name, only a number. They’ve never touched grass or lived in a home, and their adopters need more than good intentions—they need real coaching and expert support. Keeper & Kin exists to serve those dogs and the courageous humans who step up to love them.

How long before I see results?
Many owners notice calmer walks within two weeks. Full transformation depends on consistency, the dog’s history, and your chosen program.
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
Can I see my dog while they're at the board and train?
You’re always welcome to see your dog, but we strongly recommend waiting until the program is complete. Dogs are creatures of habit, and seeing you mid-training can make them sad when you leave again. That may disrupt the new routines we’re building and set progress back a few days. Don’t worry, you won’t feel out of the loop! You’ll get regular updates, pictures, videos, and messages from your trainer every day!
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
Will my dog be placed in a kennel during a board and train session?
Not here! Our trainers only work with 2-3 dogs at a time in their home, so your dog gets TONS of training, and gets to spend time as they usually would in your home; resting, playing, cuddling, etc!
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
Will my dog think I abandoned them if I do a board and train program?
It’s totally normal to worry about this but rest assured, your dog won’t feel abandoned. They may miss you a bit the first day or two, but dogs are incredibly adaptable, especially when they’re busy learning, playing, and bonding with their trainer. Most owners find the separation is actually harder on them than on their dog! And when it’s time to reunite? Dogs are always thrilled to see their people and love showing off everything they’ve learned.

How much does private or in-home training cost?

Do you work with aggressive or reactive dogs?
Yes. We help all dogs build calm, reliable behavior. From distracted puppies to anxious seniors, we’re fully capable of removing the overwhelm and replacing it with calm confidence for both you and your dog.
Community answer · Command Canine · 2025-09-21
How often will I need to attend training sessions with my dog?
It is important for you to be present at each training session. We train you to train your dog, so you gain skills to continue training at home.

Our board‑and‑train experience was exceptional from start to finish. The communication was consistent, the training methods were thoughtful and effective, and the environment was clearly designed with our dogs well‑being in mind. I’m so grateful for the care, structure, and love they poured into our dogs, Fitz and Nala. Emma was truly remarkable and we are so grateful the care and love she shared with our puppies. This program exceeded every expectation, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants real, lasting results. My dog returned home with improved manners, stronger obedience skills, and more confidence. Emma (and Maggie) provided a thorough hand‑off session, complete with demonstrations and personalized instructions to ensure we could continue reinforcing the training at home. Our puppy Fitz is deaf and they really tailored his training to give him and us more confidence on managing a dog with a disability. We feel so lucky to have this experience for him. Information videos, guides, tools, etc. have truly been valuable to us to continue the training with them at home ourselves. This program delivered measurable results and outstanding professionalism. Highly recommended. I'm so excited that we get to continue improving on this journey with Fitz and Nala through Command Canine's follow-up sessions and through group classes. I'm really looking forward to all of it. Thank you to this wonderful team and especially Emma for taking such great care of my sweet babies.

From my very first phone call with Command Canine I was very impressed. Every person I came in contact with has shown genuine care and concern for me and my pup. They want us both to succeed and are truly dedicated to making that happen. My pup, Summer, was a rescue and had a lot of issues. She was very sweet, but she really wasn’t bonding with me. She proved to be a bit timid and quite stubborn. Summer spent 4 weeks with Emma in her home and was treated like family❤️. As Emma worked with Summer she kept me very well informed of her progress with many texts and videos. Summer learned new skills and more importantly gained confidence. When she returned home she became much more connected with me. As I continue to work with her, which is a very important part of her success, I feel our bond just keeps getting stronger. I am so very happy to have discovered Command Canine, they have made such a difference in the relationship I have with Summer and in turn Summer is happier as well.

Emma was my trainer for a 3wk board and train. She was fantastic at keeping me up to date on what she was working on and sent me videos daily. I would have never sent my dog to a board and train before I found Command Canine. My dog was in a comfortable house setting getting love all day. Emma followed up after training was completed with an at home 1-2hr teaching session for me. She also came back in a week to see what I needed help with or to answer any questions I had. She was very knowledgeable and an excellent trainer. I recommend Emma with Command Canine for anyone looking to board and train their pup. It was a great experience!!!
