Cathy's Canines

My puppy and I just completed 5 weeks of training where Cathy taught us very helpful techniques for a well-behaved puppy. She stresses progress not perfection, which is what I was looking for. Having her work individually with the puppy and me enabled us to learn more thoroughly. We had lots of things to practice each week, and we are still practicing. I love that she has weekly Puppy Social Hours (additional to the individual training) where we continue to learn and practice with other dogs around and at a reasonable price. We have 2 rescues: one that's 11 and the other that's an unknown age but the vet guesses he's about 2 and a half. The younger one came to us in April. He would bark at cars and usually be aggressive around strangers (including at the vet where they'd put a muzzle on him). I researched trainers (including from my vet) and spoke to about 4 of them. Their rates and approaches varied quite a bit but I was impressed with both from Cathy, especially with the initial, low-priced consultation to determine if there's a "fit" by both parties (dog owners can impact success, too). The lessons with the young one have gone great--he no longer barks at cars or strangers (and we have some gentle correction methods if he reverts)--well enough that we've had 3 lessons with the older one who came from an abusive situation before we got her at 3. Her progress has been a little slower but that's not on Cathy; as most everyone who's had lessons knows that progress is due in large part to their owners' behaviors, and my wife and I are still learning. We plan to continue lessons with the older one and are looking forward to attending the Socials now that the temps are cooling. Bottom line: we highly recommend using Cathy. Outside of the lessons, she's there to support us, especially in answering our questions.

With Cathy's guidance, our 11 month-old pup is showing improvement in his daily walks, playing, resting, and even in his own confidence. I was convinced that every interaction with another dog was going to be ball of barking chaos. Thanks to the work that Cathy put in with all of us, we were able to have a peaceful and positive meet and greet that I would never have expected. Calling Cathy was the best move I made.
