One of Canine Companion Consulting’s specialties is Separation Anxiety. Separation Anxiety is a very common behavioral concern in dogs. Studies vary, but indicate that up to 20% of all dogs have separation anxiety on some level and account for up to 40% of dogs referred to trainers or behaviorists. Separation anxiety can manifest itself in many ways. Symptoms of separation anxiety can be but is not limited to inappropriate elimination, destroying things within the household, barking, whining, panting and not being able to settle when the pet parent is not present. Some dogs are attached to a particular person and some dogs just need someone or another animal present. Not only can it be extremely stressful for the dog, but also for the pet parents.

Program details
Veterinary care and grooming can be stressful for the dog, pet parent, and pet professionals. Reducing stress and anxiety results in a more productive practice and increased likelihood pet parents will participate in needed preventative and routine care. The Hospital or Salon will become a safer, more productive, and more comfortable environment for all. We have designed a Cooperative Care Program called Happy Handling that can be offered to canines of all ages, either as a group class or privately, depending on the client. We collaborate with the pet parent and pet professional to find out what will work best for each canine companion. We will consult with doctors and groomers to find out what they recommend and are striving for. We work as a team to target the Happy Handling every dog deserves.

Do you work with aggressive, fearful or anxious dogs?
Yes, we work with dogs of all ages and breeds with separation anxiety, general anxiety, aggression, and fear. We have worked with dogs that are uncomfortable around other dogs, humans and objects in their environment.

How do I get started working with you?
You can schedule an appointment on our web site or call us. When we meet with you for the very first time we will ask you about the behaviors you are concerned about. We will document our findings in a Behavior Report that we will email to you. We will give you lots of information and recommendations based on your life style and your canine companion(s). From there we will tailor a training plan to meet your needs. We are available between appointments to answer your questions.

Wayne and Beth are great! They are friendly, knowledgable and great to work with. My dad and I each had a 5 month old puppy in the beginner class, both with very different personalities, and they were able to tailor the training to each pup and do modifications for certain things. I love that they appreciate that training is not a "one size fits all" and they are great about working with the dogs where they are. My puppy Huck was very reserved and nervous about new people, dogs, sounds, you name it. By the end of class he had made such an improvement and now would let people approach him and sometimes pet him. The difference was just night and day and I appreciate that so much. One more thing to note is that they are great about going at the pace of each dog. Some dogs are "further" along with certain bits and some move a little slower. I thought it was great that they always help and meet you where you and your dog are, and don't push to go too fast. Thank you Beth and Wayne for everything. We hope to take additional classes from you in the future. Highly recommend these trainers!

They obviously put a lot of time into preparing for the class and have the lessons down pat. They are well informed on positive training techniques and research and on developing the bond with your pet and helping him live his best life. I've used three trainers over the years and these guys are the best of the group. They communicate the information to the owners effectively and clearly demonstrate the techniques with your dog in class. I definitely recommend them. I read the one highly negative review on this site and my experience was the complete opposite. I'd agree they must've reviewed the wrong trainers.

Canine Companion Consulting is highly recommended. The instructors’ experiences and knowledge are reflected in their highly organized classes. You can tell they put in a lot of details and effort in their structure, sequence of lessons, management of space and content. Beth and Wayne team teach showing their expertise as they flow from topic to topic engaging in hands on lessons, pausing for questions, practice time, and reviewing topics during our 6 weeks of lessons. They continually build relationships with the canines and clients, modeling and demonstrating on each topic. They give helpful tips during practice and reviewing time. Each lesson is very well thought out with follow up homework/informational handout. Their knowledge, passion, and compassion working with canines and people are represented in all they do.
