My wife, dog, and I have been attending Canine Coach for over a year now, and it has been a tremendously positive experience for all of us. It would be misleading to simply call any of the coaches at Canine Coach "dog trainers", as that's only a small part of what they do. In practice, Linda, Kerry, and Megan are "people trainers", teaching us to understand our dogs' personalities and limitations, to recognize our dogs' body language, and the approaches necessary to make our dogs genuinely excited to do the things we want them to do. This isn't a place where you'll find quick fixes to unwanted behaviors; it's much more about changing the things we as owners do to reinforce those unwanted behaviors, and shaping new, better, behaviors for ourselves and our dogs. When we first adopted Kona from the Humane Society, she was high-energy, highly reactive, and very difficult to control. The majority of her first group class was spent sitting in a chair and waiting for her to stop straining on her leash toward the other dogs in the room. Kona is still high-energy, and that will likely never change, but over the course of a few months, the transformation was like night and day -- today, she's able to settle down quickly when she gets excited, and we no longer have to stress out about her behavior when we have guests in our home. Since enrolling, we've also enjoyed some of the more niche classes on offer, like tricks and nose-work. We've found them to be great ways to keep Kona's mind active, teach her new skills, and generally just have some fun.
