Breakthrough K9 Training

We dropped our (then) 1 year old working line German Shepherd off at Breakthrough K9 for a board & train, and we couldn't have been more pleased with the results when we picked her up. Being such a high drive dog, her energy could be a little much at times. Breakthrough taught her and us how to control that. Their facilities are top-notch and we feel very comfortable boarding her there when we leave town. She is 2 years old now and couldn't be a better dog. Stick to the plan they give you upon pick-up and you will have a much better relationship with your dog. I highly recommend Breakthrough K9!

We found BTK9 after months of searching and vetting trainers that could help our doberman with very specific training needs. She participated in the 3 week board and train and we cannot express how thankful we are that we chose BTK9 (even with the over 3 hour drive each way...we live in MD). Our doberman had already suffered through a horrendous experience as a puppy at a previous board and train which unfortunately resulted in legal against that company for their neglect and mishandling of our dog. Additonally, she was also recovering from physical and mental trauma from a home break-in in our new home so we knew we needed truly experienced dog handlers/trainers if we were going to be able to continue to provide her (and our other 4 dogs) a safe home environment. While we had worked with Charlie on her basic commands ourselves, It was incredible seeing Charlotte thrive in the care of the BTK9 team. We could see progression with each and every update! When we went to pick her up at the end of the training experience she was the confident, happy dog we always knew she could be. It was very evident to us that she had been cared for in a great facility and that she had learned so much during her time there. We also appreciated how the team showed us how to implement what she had learned and we were able to ask any questions we needed. As we performed the new commands there on-site qith Charlie, the trainers also provided us constructive feedback on how we could do better providing her leadership with the new commands she had learned. Charlotte has never walked on a loose leash -EVER. She wowed us by walking perfectly for both my husband and I among many other things. We work with her often to still reinforce what she learned at BTK9 and she is a changed dog here at home! We go for walks, she loves being around her fur siblings-especially the puppy and the elderly doxie with whom she had an altercation with prior to BTK9. We are grateful to BTK9 for helping us provide Charlotte with the tools to help her get through her trauma and help us keep our family together.

Breakthrough K9 has been outstanding! We recently moved to the DMV and our dog Finn was having trouble when new people came over to the house. I also had a long work trip coming up, and wanted Finn to also be receiving enrichment as well as boarding. Breakthrough K9 was exceedingly accommodating to my schedule, and did a great job building Finn’s confidence while he trained with them. They’re now our go to for dog boarding as well

My husband and I recently needed to board and train our two dogs after an unfortunate accident with a smaller dog in the neighborhood. When initially requesting information on this program, I had the pleasure of meeting Lenny. He is clearly passionate about educating the community on dog psychology. He spoke to the importance of balanced training and reinforcing leadership and boundaries. Needless to say I was beyond impressed with his knowledge and we committed to educating ourselves as well as our pets. When it came time to drop off our dogs we could instantly feel that they would be loved and cared for. It was awesome seeing updates on Facebook and instagram as well! Lenny was fundamental in bridging the gap that had been formed with our neighbors after the accident, and we were able to come to a peaceful resolution. My husband and I firmly believe that this would not have been possible without Lenny, his incredible team, and the education that was provided to us so we could fully live up to our potential of being balanced and responsible pet parents. Without reservation, we would recommend Breakthrough K9. We cannot thank them enough for everything they have done for our family. We have already discussed routine tune ups to continue to reinforce everything that has been learned! They are the best!
