Beyond The Leash

We have a 4-year-old dog named Winston that was progressively getting more aggressive with both our family and our other dog. All of us love Winston but realized something had to be done before he really hurt someone. Not having any experience with an aggressive dog, my wife started reaching out to trainers experienced with aggressive dogs. After speaking with multiple trainers, she felt the most comfortable with "Beyond the Leash" and scheduled a consultation. Scott showed up and evaluated the situation and he was open and honest with our options. He confirmed what we feared and let us know that Winston was a liability that would need intensive training or be put to sleep. Being our daughter's dog, we decided to do everything we could to train him before resorting to putting him to sleep. My wife and I decided the 4-week boot camp gave Winston the best chance to start the training he needed. Winston spent 4 weeks with Scott and Jessica training but also allowing them the ability to figure out what triggered his aggression and ways to help mitigate it. While at the boot camp we received frequent video updates on how Winston was doing. It was surprising to get videos that showed him walking without tugging or biting the leash, calmly sitting on a dog bed, and getting washed without growling. These were the first glimpses that there was hope that training may actually help him. After 4 weeks Winston came home with Scott and Jessica going over all of the training they had been doing and what we were going to continue with. There was training on how to walk him, how to feed him (and conversely our other dog because the food was a major part of the aggression), how to crate him, how to get him to come, etc. At first it was a little over whelming as Winston tried to revert to his old behavior but after the first couple of days the training routines Scott and Jessica provided became his routine. Winston has been home about a month now and there is a calmness now in the evening that has been absent for years. He no longer has the anxiety that used to cause him to roam around the house all night. We can't thank Scott and Jessica enough for helping us! They are amazing trainers!

Scott and Jess helped turn my wild and crazy energetic, out-of-control Golden Retriever into a well-behaved, polite, calm, canine companion. I love that after I did a board and train program they did multiple private lessons with me to help me learn how to continue on with the training. I got my parents dog who had been through a lot of training...but I wasn't part of any of it. She was my first dog on my own and I just couldn't handle her. The first intro session with Scott and Jess and she immediately was responding to me so much better. They quickly taught me that my dog needs a job or, at minimum, needs to be told what to do. When she isn't told what to do she has anxiety and does *whatever* (including things she knows she isn't supposed to do). They taught me things to work on, like recall, "place", and loose leash walking and gave me a great foundation to strengthen her trust in me and our relationship.
