Wow, where do I begin? I was at my wit's end with my recently adopted 4-year old dog Amber, who was so incredibly anxious that she couldn't be around any strangers and would bark at everyone in sight until they left. I wasn't able to walk her unless it was at the crack of dawn or late at night when no one was out. I wasn't able to have visitors over or ride the elevator in my apartment because I didn't want to subject Amber to the stress her anxiety would cause her and didn't want to subject anyone to her aggressive barking. Her old owners tried two other dog training courses but they didn't work and she is also on antianxiety medication. I found Beyond the Dog and hoped that behavioral therapy would help because I was losing hope. On my consultation call, I was reassured I would notice a difference in her behavior after two weeks of the all-inclusive program and I was skeptical at first because they deemed her a severe case. Our trainer, Abby, tailored training to Amber's reactivity and had me handle her until Amber became comfortable with her, which took a week. Abby taught me strategies to stop the barking and reactivity, and after two weeks of training, there was a massive reduction in Amber's barking. Abby was so patient with Amber and I when she taught me how to get Amber to sit, lie down, go to her place, and even a guest routine to do with visitors. We brought Amber to parks, TJ Maxx, and around the neighborhood to make sure she was exposed to different environments so Abby could teach me how best to keep Amber's reactivity at bay. People now compliment Amber on how well-trained she is. I'm so, so grateful for Abby. Amber and I can live a normal life now! (Photo cred: Abby!)
