Beyond the Dog

My veterinarian recommended Beyond The Dog to me to work on some reactivity problems with my dog. He is four years old. We are out in public a lot, and it is not appropriate for him to be reactive to anything. We had been separated for 5 1/2 months because I broke my hip. When we were able to get back together, he showed fear aggression toward people, dogs, cats, bicycles, and anything on wheels. We have been dealing with this problem for about two years and it has seemed to get worse, not better. I tried many things that were suggested and nothing seemed to work. I was frustrated and scared, afraid that my dog might bite someone. I was contemplating putting him in a muzzle. With my veterinarian's recommendation, I was able to train with Beyond The Dog trainer, Erin, For 5 1/2 weeks. I realized that a large part of my problem was that I had lost confidence in working with my dog! Of course he was engaging in fear aggression by barking and lunging because I was letting him take the lead and that's how he handled it, as if to say, "Stay away from us!" I was reminded by the trainer of some techniques that I already knew, but really had forgotten. She worked with us four days a week for an hour each time for 5 1/2 weeks. I learned that these techniques and distance were paramount in working with my dog. It has been about six weeks now and the formal training Is over. I work with my dog every day because I want us to get better at extinguishing undesirable behaviors as soon as possible!. I thought we would make a little progress in 5 1/2 half weeks, but we actually have made a lot! My confidences is back! I see things that might trigger my dog and I get ready to use the techniques that I've learned to stop reactivity before it starts! We started using these techniques and building confidence quite a distance from the distractions. Now we have started going closer to the triggers and I am confident that my dog will not engage in reactivity because he feels my confidence in my ability to handle the situation effectively. It's almost like he didn't feel safe before, so he felt like he had to react,. But now that he feels like I am in charge, he can relax and look to me! He actually seems happier when I am in charge! Erin is a great trainer! I never heard her use the word "No" with my dog. As I think about it, I don't think she ever used negative words with me either! She always reassured me and let me know that she was available by text! I found out that she and Beyond The Dog team of trainers consulted on cases every week. I'm in a wheelchair, and there were times that Erin had to adapt her training to fit our situation. The beauty of Beyond The Dog is that they treat each case of training a dog and a client uniquely as they need it presented to fit their needs. Beyond The Dog and their trainers work to tailor the training to the dog and the owner. I would recommend Beyond The Dog and Erin to anyone who needed help with negative dog behaviors and obedience! We have been incredibly happy with Tiffany and she has been an amazing and patient trainer for our dogs. We have been working with Tiffany for nearly two years. She trained our first puppy Saddie (girl) so well that we decided to add a second puppy to our family a year later whose name is Milo (boy). Milo didn’t listen as well as Sadie (it took a little longer for him to catch on!) but she was so patient with him (and us!). Tiffany helped us navigate our electric fence training seamlessly and offered guidance when the puppy didn’t quite care about the electric fence. They are both such great and well behaved dogs and love playing with our children - that peace of mind is priceless. Tiffany is basically extended family now and we could not imagine our lives without her help and guidance!!

Trinity is the best!! Our doggo Maggie was ecstatic to spend time with her each week. We opted for the six week course and it was such fun to see how excited Maggie was when Trinity would come by. You could tell that she was excited to use her brain and work on her skills! Trinity gave wonderful feedback to us humans and gave us clear direction on how to continue training Maggie with success.
