Barks and Rec. Animal Training and Behavior is the only facility of its kind in northern Michigan. We use modern, science-based, and empathy-driven positive reinforcement training methods to help you and your dog live your best lives together. Our trainers are highly educated in learning theory, behavior modification, ethology, puppy development, behavior analysis, and more.
Our services include group classes, private and in-home training for: puppy socialization, manners and obedience; aggression, reactivity, and separation anxiety; CGC testing and therapy dog prep; and dog sports, including agility, scent work, Rally O, and AKC Fit Dog.

Alicea's knowledge and skill as a trainer is matched by her compassion for animals and humans. She has helped us several times with our two rescue dogs who both came to us with poor socialization and anxiety issues. One in particular had a serious paw touch/nail trim phobia. She was able to train him to use the nail board in the first visit. Because of visits with her, we were equipped and confident enough to pass that training on to our other dog who tolerated nail trims but with great fear. Nail trimming is now an exciting treat time with the nail board instead of trembling, fear, hiding, and anesthesia. She's also friendly to humans and has a great sense of humor!

Alicea helped my chihuahua with so many things. One of the best things was the nail board. Kanga did not like nail trims so Alicea helped me train her to use the nail board so she could file her own nails.

Alicea is the best! She actually trained my pug to lay down, which is amazing. Her training techniques are ethical and consistent. She will do everything in her power to help you and your pet succeed. I am a veterinarian and I can tell you she is top notch! If you are looking for an awesome trainer, you have found her.

Alicea saved Sally! I adopted her from a nearby animal shelter And she almost went back because she had NO socialization and was aggressive towards another dog. I was at a loss until I started taking her to training with Alicea! She showed me how to work with Sally with kindness and compassion.
She really knows her stuff!!! And now Sally is the sweetest dog in the whole world.

Alicea is a great trainer. She helped our Zoey act like a princess and not a demon. She truly cares about each dog. Her technique allows you as the owner to understand your dog more.
