When we first started training, I was at my wit’s end and seriously considering rehoming my less-than-a-year-old golden retriever. Fast forward to session 8 of our 10 one-on-one lessons with Dewayne, and my pup is now the best-behaved boy on the block! Dewayne’s training style is individualized and personal he really takes the time to understand both you and your dog. We took our 7 month old puppy here for the two week board and train program. We dropped off a puppy that pulled on the leash, lacked confidence, barked at all people and other animals, and generally did what he wanted. During the two weeks, we received daily updates and helpful video clips to view how the training was going. After the two weeks, DeWayne dropped off our puppy and walked around the neighborhood with us to show the changes and use of new commands. We were impressed with the amount of progress made in just two weeks. Our puppy walked well on the leash, showed confidence and didn’t bark at everybody and knew many new commands like ‘Leave it’ which has been very helpful. We felt like we dropped off our puppy at a 5 star resort and appreciated the sincere kindness and care provided by DeWayne. Highly recommend.

We have two dachsunds: Gus, a 10 month, wag-the-tail-off, friendly little guy; and Tobi, a five year old sensitive and fearful doxie with an only dog (child) syndrome. When Gus joined the family he was all about rough-housing with Tobi, which Tobi tolerated for awhile. However, Tobi started to resent the attention from Gus, and started to show his frustration with all of us--showing teeth, barking at the doorbell and neighbors. We are thankful for DeWayne' s positive approach integrating play with correcting a bad behavior instead of using negative reinforcement. Tobi has moments when he lapses, but for the most part we have quieter moments when the doorbell rings, less toothy displays, and friendlier sniffing when people visit. We contacted DeWayne at Anchor Up K9 Academy because we needed help with our 4 year old Golden Retriever, Tucker. He was trained as a puppy with treats and knew basic commands like sit, down, speak, and shake. However, he is smart and stubborn and wouldn’t listen without treats. He also is very loud when people come up to the door. After a few sessions with DeWayne, we noticed an immediate difference. Focusing on training during play and building trust was a game changer. Tucker picked everything up right away and he is a whole new dog. He listens to us without treats and is walking extremely well on a leash. We couldn’t have done it without DeWayne and highly recommend him!
