American K-9 Training/Cathy Johnston

A year ago in February I started training for my American Bulldog we were told $500 upfront She canceled / had to reschedule several times and in June we got a message that she was having a personal matter and needed emergency surgery and she would keep us posted, make it up to us and get back to us about next time we could get together for a class I called and texted several times and got no answer to both I looked her up and found she changed her number (without letting us know) She never fulfilled to our agreement She never completed our classes even though we payed upfront in full Very very upset about getting ripped off !!! Got no refund !!!!!

Keep your dog as far away from this woman as possible! I know her prices are fantastic compared to others but there’s a reason for that. We met her over the summer when we were training weekly with our 10 wk old puppy. The first two sessions were great. She worked on the basics, luring with treats and getting a feeling for our pups disposition and filled us in on the basics we already knew. The third session, while walking with our 10 week old puppy she proceeded to twirl her around by the leash! All 4 paws were off the ground!! It was because the pup was running toward her instead of “walking nicely.” When I reacted, she said “it’s funny everyone is so worried about the dog but nobody is asking how I am.” My pup was showing all the textbook signs of stress; panting with a spatulate tongue, whimpering, wide eyes etc which Cathy falsely told us were signs of affection. Needless to say, we haven’t seen her since that time. She did refund less than half of my money. Looking back, I’m sure the 3 pages of 5 star reviews I saw at that time were written by family or friends. After the incident I began a super deep search that made me feel guilty that I ever exposed my dog to her. I just count my blessings that we never did a board and train.

Cathy is awesome! She is particularly good with dogs with anxiety and aggression. Our labradoodle had experienced several traumatic attacks, making her nervous around other dogs. She is incredibly talented at reading dogs' minds and languages and can quickly and accurately diagnose the cause of the problems. It is so amazing to observe how skillfully she could control and correct our dog's undesirable behaviors. She has a wealth of information and tips for us, which significantly helps our daily life. We started out with several other dog trainers in the area with little progress until we found Cathy about 5 years ago! So far, we couldn't be any happier with her. She is also pleasant to be around, and we enjoyed every bit of conversation with her (dog related to not). Her kindness certainly shines through. Our massive thanks to Cathy!

I can’t thank Cathy Johnston enough for getting us on the right track with our dog, Ziggy. Ziggy was a handful and very fresh. Cathy was absolutely the solution and Ziggy is now a great dog. I know I have a safe place I can leave her when we are away. She never leaves her dogs unattended. Her help is as attentive as she is and she takes incredibly great care.
