We can’t say enough good things about Mike and his team at Woof Works Training. First of all, Mike is seriously good with dogs(and their humans) and takes a very deliberate, systematic approach based on positive reinforcement. Our Hank not only thrived but he seriously loved the work. Mike gave him all the time he needed to build his attention and confidence. He came back to us changed but that is where the true work and commitment began. Mike reviewed his training with us and we arranged a half day session weeks later that was invaluable. Mike is obviously talented and truly loves his work. The dogs in his care adore him! I would not hesitate to recommend his services to anyone having any issues with their dog or just to sure up their training. This was a great use of money investing in the well-being of our dog and teaching us to be truly good, responsible dog owners.

I discovered Woof Works Training from a recommendation by my vet in York, ME. I contacted Mike and he came to my home to evaluate my then 10 month old Australian Labradoodle who needed training to help control her impulses and demand barking when visitors came to my house. Mike worked with Allyra to let her know those behaviors were not acceptable and she would get nothing by doing them. I found Mike's method of training was fair and gentle to my pup with great patience and skill. He not only trains the dog but the owner since it is up to us to continue the training when we leave a training session. My pup has completed 11 private lessons with Woof Works and I plan on continuing them with further emphasis on recall training. I highly recommend Mike Armstrong as a knowledgeable, compassionate, fun, patient, and assertive trainer. He is kind and a true dog lover. Initially, Mike helped me with puppy training (Elijah) during early Covid days. A few months later, my 12 year old dog (Strider) and Elijah were fighting (due to lots of change and stress with visitors, moving, the holidays, etc.) - the dynamic was so bad and chaotic that I was seriously considering "re-homing" my beloved new puppy. Enter Mike - He literally "saved" us. *He trained ME to be a leader, to provide consistent love, safety and support to both dogs by being consistent with praise and positive discipline. *He taught ME about dog behavior, expectations, and what a dog understands as love: they want the owner to be in charge. *He took Elijah under his wing via the "board and train" option. At what we called boot camp / back to school, Elijah re-learned his manners, reduced his reactivity, improved his leash walking, and expanded his socialization..... all as result of Mike's patience and persistence. *Mike provided a care plan for both Strider and Elijah including some "best practices" for me to learn to help Strider feel safe and to reduce his anxiety. I can't say enough good things about Mike and his dog training skills. We have been working with Mike for quite a few weeks on my German Shepherd who has had some (okay, a lot of) aggression and reactivity issues. He has been very patient and extremely helpful with the private lessons. We made some strides and then decided when we were going on vacation to board and train both of my dogs. I can't believe how much progress he made in just over a week. Mike has been a pleasure to work with. He truly loves the dogs and seeing progress. He is very hands on and then works to show you how to do what he's trying to teach the dog. If you have a troublesome dog or even a good dog who needs a refresher, Mike is your dog trainer.
