Wildcard Canine

WildCard Canine has been a game changer for us! Their approach to training and boarding has made our questionable decision to rescue an older dog - one that I no longer regret. We are not first time owners at all, but our other dogs were always introduced as purebred puppies. This time we decided to rescue a needy dog… what could go wrong?. Well, in all honesty, I was having adoption remorse over this guy. What did we get ourselves into? Still afraid of literally “everything”. Trust issues. Car sick every time he got in the truck. You name it - he had it. A few months had already gone by and we needed to be out of town for two weeks. Normally we’d just throw the dog(s) in the car and hit the road. But not this fragile guy. He needed to be boarded. I did some research and discovered that some of these places that board also train. Who knew? I called and talked to Anna and explained our situation and she calmly accepted our challenge. WildCard would board & train our rescue. At this point we were a little desperate, but we had no choice… We’d just have to pick up the pieces when we got back. We followed some of the activities on Facebook as we travelled, but tried to limit our contact with WildCard. Just let them do their thing… Two weeks to the day we returned to a different dog! Don’t get us wrong, it wasn’t like he was fully trained and running obstacle courses or anything, but the girls gave him whatever attention and direction he needed to break through. From that point on he’s been training and socializing at WildCard every week. On some level it’s very true what they say -that it’s not the dog, it’s the owners. In our case I can say we all needed training. And we got it! We go to social hour every Tuesday to get him used to other dogs and distractions. I won’t say he looks forward to it, but every week he does just a little better. And every week we leave with homework. We even enrolled him the AKC Good Citizen Class, and he actually passed! I can honestly say we’ve never invested more time training with one of our dogs than with this guy. But the time, direction and experiences at WildCard has given us a dog that is becoming a wonderful member of our family.
