While I am very sorry that this client’s experience was not what he had hoped for I do actually agree with every point in his review (except the number of stars). To preface this review, the client and his wife visited us several times before purchasing a Belgium Malinois/German Shepherd mix for $800. They were explained that these puppies were bred for their high drive and personal protection potential. They were made aware (in writing) that these types of dogs needed training and constant care. They made me believe they were responsible enough to make this decision and finally decided to purchase the puppy at which they signed a liability waiver stating the temperament and risks of having a puppy of this breed. They took the puppy (16 weeks) home and after 3 days were ready to return it. They brought the puppy back to me for a full refund but then became very emotional and did not want to give him up. I agreed to train him in basic obedience for 3 weeks at a discounted rate because they said they could not afford training. It was explained to both of them that the dog is still very young and that they would have to work with him and continue his training throughout his early development. Once again they assured me of their ability to take on the responsibilities. It was explained to them that I do not sell grown pet dogs and that this dog was bred to be a working dog and that if I was to train his potential out of him that at that point I could not refund the dog if they later surrendered it to me or anyone else. They assured me they understood. The training was completed and the clients stated they were satisfied. Two months later they decided to surrender the dog to me. They both admitted they had not followed through with the training path (written packet) and were having all the issues stated in the purchase contract (in writing and signed by purchaser). I explained to them that I would accept the dog but that there would be no refund. They agreed and I met them in a gas station parking lot where they surrendered their dog. I have now had the dog for 10 months. I have been training him to be a single purpose police K9 and he will eventually be an asset to a community and have a deserving home and job. I had only heard from his previous owners to occasionally check in on him and they seemed happy to hear he was progressing. It wasn’t until I posted that the dog may now have a potential buyer that Mr. Kaminski reached out wanting money. By this time I had invested too much time and money into the dog he surrendered and told him once again that there would be no refund. <br>Like I said before, I agree completely with Mr. Kaminski’s statement… <br><br>“BUYER BEWARE”- Beware that purchasing a young puppy requires you to research the breed and understand the responsibilities of raising one. Especially if you wish to purchase a high drive breed such as a malinois/GSD mix. <br><br>“READ ALL CONTRACTS”- Especially like the one I have all my clients sign when purchasing a high drive dog with working dog potential. This contract lays out the the potential risks, liabilities, and responsibilities of bringing these breeds into your home. <br><br>“GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING”- Take head to what the seller tells you. If you do not understand what you are purchasing or can not remember important things concerning the purchase, always write them down. like the conversation I had with this particular client who surrendered the puppy back to me after having it at his home for 2 months. I explained that I would take the puppy back because I did not want it to end up with someone else who wasn’t prepared to care for it. Too often these breeds end up abandoned or destroyed. This client agreed to surrender the puppy without a refund as well. <br><br>“$2000 LESSON LEARNED”- this is an expensive lesson. But not all families are able to handle certain types of dogs.
