Von Dubinhaus Dog Training Services

We have been taking our American Eskimo to Paul for only about a month now but we are already seeing great improvements. Our dog has big aggression issues for such a little guy with both people and other dogs. I needed a trainer that both specializes in aggressive dogs and provide a relaxed environment that my boyfriend felt comfortable taking his dog to. We got both here and I couldnt be more pleased. Once a week we see Paul and work on another issue then we go home and continue the training. So far we have a dog that is almost crate trained and my boyfriend reported that he was able to go to a gas station without the dog trying to eat the attendant. My favorite part has been the cat training we worked on this last week. I feel so much better about my cat coming to live with us now. Paul is so flexable with his lessons and it's great that we can text him any time we have a problem with the dog that we dont know how to solve on our own. I know these sound like small accomplishments to a lot of people but you just dont realize how much you change your life when you have an aggressive dog until you start to unravel the mess one problem at a time. I am so excited to continue training here, I can't wait to see what a good dog we are going to have. Paul really puts his heart into his job and it shows. Even after we told him all the bad things our dog has done he was ready to make friends with him and start working with us. My boyfriend might even get to go a week or two without hearing something like "it's me or the dog" coming from me. Thanks Paul for training my man and his dog! ;) You are a real life saver! I bought a champion breed German Shepard from a breeder back east recommended by the American Diabetes Association to train as a diabetic service dog. He was only eight weeks old when I picked him up at the airport; we bonded instantly as soon as I opened the crate door. I shopped around for trainers and decided Pet Smart would be a good place to start his obedience training, their concept was wholesome and gentle. Our trainer there said we should limit his exposure to other dogs as he was going to be a service dog. The praise and reward training: while most likely good for most dogs, was not working well for General Lee. He was too smart for that and just turned it into a game that worked to his advantage on his rise to become the dominant one in our relationship; he also kept getting more aggressive towards other dogs. When he got to six months of age I could no longer control him in public places and feared he would never become a service dog and was feeling very stressed and depressed. When I met Paul for the first time, he explained that German Shepard’s need to have firm discipline and lots of socialization with other dogs, especially Shepard’s. I bought a pinch collar and leash for General Lee, which is what the breeder recommended from the start and by the end of our evaluation session General Lee had already learned that he was not the dominate one in our relationship. We’ve been working with Paul for the last two months now and General Lee is now well on his way to become the service dog that may save my life someday. His obedience is now far above most dogs his age. I asked Paul if he could train General Lee to ring a bell when he needs to go outside, he gave me a funny look and said he hadn’t done that before but didn’t see why he couldn’t. Well it’s working so well that the other dogs in his care are now starting to ring the bell when they want out. I’ve been planning on having his actual service dog training done in Seattle or San Francisco but am hoping Paul will want to on this challenge, he has my full confidence. If General Lee does save my life someday it will be because of Paul, he is a great trainer of dogs and their owners.

I have never had a dog and knew nothing about them. I go out and get a German Shepherd. It was a real learning experience! Before finding Paul my daily routine was a battle. The dog would drag me down the street for a walk. My morning coffee would be all over me after she jumped on me. My best day was when the neighbor started yelling at me telling me to shut my dog up. Since coming to Paul life is much more peaceful. I can take Bella for walks and drink my coffee with ease. Thanks Paul!

Prior to finding Paul at Von Dubinhaus Shepherds, I had taken Eddy, my German Shepherd to several types of trainers. None of them were able to help with Eddy's aggressive behavior towards other dogs and people. I couldn't take him for a walk without his uncontrollable barking and lurching. A couple of times he had toppled me over with his power, leaving me holding his leash on the ground. I gave up walking him during the day and resorted to late night walks after midnight. My home was like a fortress, privacy screens on every window and drapes drawn. I was a prisoner in my own home. During this time, in order to even go up the stairs without his nipping at my heels, I'd have to give him a treat. This constant reward for bad behavior ended up making Eddy a very big boy. He was over weight and out of control. At wits end, I went online to look for a new trainer. I hadn't given up hope for Eddy because I love him. I knew that deep down he could be a good dog, it's just finding the right solution. When I first met Paul, and he tested Eddy and could tell that his aggression towards other dogs was out of control. He suggested rehabilitating Eddy for a few months. Paul has a genuine love for these dogs as well as concern for the owners. I visited Eddy during this time, and could see the difference in him. He listened and learned to control some of his impulses. Eddy learned how to relate not only to other dogs but to people. Those two months, turned into four. Paul wanted to make sure that Eddy was ready to come home. Also, he suggested that Eddy have a companion. A rescue by the name of Diamond was selected, and has become a wonderful addition. The change in Eddy is remarkable. He no longer pulls and lurches at his leash. I can now open up my windows to the world outside without fear of a 130 lb. GSD barking. I now have a trim 90lb. GSD that protects my home, within reason.....and I'm the boss now. I am thankful to Von Dubinhaus Shepherds for the change in Eddy and giving my life back. I cannot express to you how happy we are with Paul and Von Dubinhaus Dog training. First a little background. We have 2 dogs that like each other a lot but do not like other dogs very much. This dog aggression is why we chose Paul in the first place. From extensive research he is one of the only trainers in Portland who will work with any type of aggressive dog. We started with the evaluation where Paul took the time to really work with our dogs and see the traits we were trying to fix. One of the best parts of the training is that Paul has a ton of dogs around who can work with your dogs. This becomes really important as you start to socialize the dogs. At the end of the evaluation Paul gave us the fee for lifetime training for the 2 dogs. This was about 50% of what others would have charged. We have been using the training almost weekly for about a year and have seen huge improvements. There is no pressure to buy anything else. Please remember this is not Petco training. This is real dog training for real problems and you have to be willing to put in as much work as he does to see results, but if you are willing to work you will be very happy with the results. My two dogs are now pleasant to take on walks and can actually play with other dogs. Again I cannot express to you how happy we are with our decision to use Von Dubinhaus dog training.
