Two Tails Training

Shylar worked with me and my dog in the Denver area. My dog is extremely dog reactive and so our life before training was very limited and stressful. Shylar worked with us over 8/9 weeks, one session a week. The tools we have learned to work with have changed our lives in such a dramatic way. I no longer have to avoid other dogs and can walk my dog with confidence knowing I can handle the challenges life may throw our way. She doesn’t pull anymore and I can walk her with a loose leash in one hand. My dog is not perfect or done with training. She hasn’t graduated yet. We are currently using what we have learned to practice and ready ourselves for graduation. If you don’t want to do the work, you will not see progress. At the beginning of this year my dog barely got 20 minute walks, now she gets an hour walk daily. Needless to say our quality of life has improved tremendously. I can’t thank Shylar enough.

I can not rave enough about Fern and Shy over at Two Tails! They have truly changed my life and it was worth the months of waiting to get in (so be patient people, it’s totally worth the wait and your money!!). When I first met them, I was not a confident dog owner at all and Scooby was reactive to other dogs and people. He is my first dog and realistically I knew nothing about being a great dog owner. Hiking and being outdoors is a HUGE part of my life and I could never truly share that passion with Scooby because of his reactivity. I can now confidently take Scooby on any hike I’d like (even crushed nine 14ers this summer!) and have it be an enjoyable and memorable experience! This was not possible before Two Tails. We can even enjoy food and beer after at a brewery together! It feels like we are just starting to really live life together all thanks to Two Tails. Fern isn’t the kind of dude that is going to sugar coat things. He gives you information straight up and expects you to put in the time and effort into training just as he is doing for you. Your dog will never be “perfect” but consistency is everything!!!! Spend the money, put in the time, and get the tools you need from Two Tails to give you and your dog the life you both deserve and have always wanted.

TLDR: Fernando saved my dog’s life. He is the best of the best. If you have an aggressive/ highly reactive dog this is the only trainer you should be going to. DO NOT GO TO A FRANCHISE like I did! Go straight to Two Tails, I highly HIGHLY recommend. When I came to Two Tails for my consult I was beyond discouraged and totally demoralized when it came to dog training. My dog, Ata, (Rottweiler + GSD mix) had already been through an expensive board and train with Sit Means Sit for his aggression and during his go home session he exploded with the trainer handling the leash. They claimed he never did this during B&T. Then we could only be in a group class with other aggressive/reactive dogs until we “graduated”, which made everything worse. I stopped taking him to those after 3 months of consistent attendance, did my own research on training and got him back to a much better place. But I was still walking him early morning or late at night to avoid all other dogs and he was still loading up to 100 yards out (or more) depending on the dog and only responding to very high levels on the e-collar. I was constantly stressed and felt like there was zero hope for him no matter how much I tried new things and constantly worried that he would one day attack or kill another dog and I would be ordered to put him down. With Fernando's training, I learned how to change my dog’s mindset and behavior completely. I was finally able to take charge of my little pack. Fern cares deeply about your dog and will be as committed to you as you are to your dog's training and homework. He will be brutally honest and help you internalize all that he teaches you so that you and your dog are set up for long term success, not so that your dog only responds to him, and so your dog is able to actually enjoy life with you! Now walks are a training opportunity, instead of being scared I try to find times that more dogs are out and am excited to work with Ata or watch him avoid/ self correct around the dogs all on his own. I rarely have to use the e-collar anymore and can mostly rely on verbal cues and prong corrections. On a recent move he was so well behaved at all stops and in stores, everyone commented on his good manners and he ignored the other dogs. I live in a city setting now and untrained dogs are everywhere and Ata is handling it all so well! Before Two Tails this would not have even crossed my mind as a possibility. This is a lifetime commitment and I train my dogs daily, but I have built up so much trust with Ata, thanks to Fern and Two Tails, that life is a million times better. Plus I have been able to implement all of the training techniques with my other dog and he has improved so much. AND Fernando still follows up, answers questions, and is willing to help or make suggestions. I could not recommend a trainer or training company more, especially to anyone with an aggressive dog. My hyper aggressive dog can now walk next to, and past, strange dogs (with appropriate space), enjoy hikes, join me on errands, calmly get his grooming done, self corrects and is able to calmly heel and train near dog parks ALL because of Fern and Two Tails… miracle! 10/5 stars.
