Hello Christina, we are so sorry and heartbroken for the loss of Jack. I know this cannot be easy for you and for this we are sincerely sorry. I do understand that this time was crazy for you so I would like to share with you again what happened that day. Throughout the day we rotate the dogs outside to exercise and play. Jack always went out by himself into one of our 15x30 turf lots. He walked out as usual with our kennel attendant and he was being loved on as he calmly walked out beside her like he had every time before. While out in the lot he had access to water and no access to any other dogs. He went out, used the bathroom and was brought back in by the same kennel attendant 15 minutes later. On the way in he walked normally and went back to his kennel after being greeted by other staff members including myself. Jack was not neglected, exhausted, injured, he was not in distress, was loved on and cared for like he was one of our own. Jack was not anxious while he stayed with us, in fact he was very comfortable here, and even ate and drank normally from the beginning which is not true for some who are more nervous in a new environment. After about 30 minutes of rotating other dogs out, one of our kennel attendants noticed Jack did not respond to her, so she went to check on him and he was no longer with us. I personally tried to revive him, but there was nothing further that I could do. I then called you, and as we discussed, I brought him to the Veterinary clinic where they held him for you. Anytime something happens in my life, I am very quick to ask, “What could I have done better?” I do this whether there was fault of my own or not. I have thought long and hard about this and know that there is nothing that we could have done differently. We did everything we could to keep Jake and Kelce safe, as well as all the other dogs we love dearly. As you said anything can happen, but in this case there is no doubt that it was something medical and out of our control. This could have happened whether he was with us or anyone else, including you. I understand the natural urge to blame someone. However, placing blame on yourself for sending him to us and then blaming us for his death is misplaced.
