I needed help with my (actually my wife's miniature schnauzer puppy) and his dog aggressive behavior. He is excellent around people (kids, adults strangers) but goes crazy around other dogs. Mainly because I never had a chance to properly socialize him with other dogs and EVERY contact he had with another dog was negative. When we would take our walks it seemed like dogs would come out of nowhere and try to attack him (1 house with 2 dogs, 1 house with 3 dogs, etc) so I always picked him up and removed him from the confrontation. Not sure if I should have just let them "work it out" at some point, but he was a puppy and a lot smaller. Therefore i think mainly his barking and aggression was out of fear. Since I've been working with him quite a bit I also felt that he had basic obedience (or at least a foundation)...but not after I saw Mr. Lindsey's dogs. The main reason why I chose to get some professional help was that we recently moved to a new neighborhood and I basically got tired of being "that guy with the crazy dog" at my daughter's bus stop every morning with the other parents and their well-behaved dogs. Everyone know's one of them, right? When I visited Mr. Lindsey for a consultation, my dog was very aggressive towards his dogs but his dogs had absolutely NO response. They literally just ignored my dog as he barked and snapped at them from inches away. This is what I needed.. a controlled environment for him to work on his socialization without the risk of having multiple out of control dogs or someone getting hurt. While going through Mr. Lindsey's program I had to unlearn quite a few things and understand the mindset of how my dog thinks and I found out that this doesn't stop with me.... it requires a commitment from the entire family to be on the same page with the training goals or things can unravel (by anyone in the household). Mr. Lindsey has not only helped me with his aggressive behavior but he has also helped with his obedience, as well as tracking, and always gave me a lesson plan on what to work on before the next session as well as what needs to be improved on. My dog has come a long way but he still needs a lot of work and I continue to teach him new things. I remember Mr. Lindsey's little saying "Kids and Dogs". Every time I spit out a command and my dog just totally ignores me or keeps playing with his dogs or doesn't come I'd say "but he always does it for me at home". He would say something like (and i'm paraphrasing) "I was a good kid when I was at home and my parents were watching. its when I got out of the house..." I think any type of training requires work, there are no short cuts unless you want to pay 1000's of dollars... and you still have to put the work in afterwards for maintenance. The good thing is that it doesn't take a lot of time and its worth the effort. I work with him at least 3-5 times a day, sometimes 1-2 min or sometimes 30-40 min. I use every opportunity possible (always during walking, before feeding, before letting him out, before letting him back in, etc) sometimes it doesn't even feel like training but it counts.
