These classes pave your way toward Canine Good Citizen training and testing. Here, you’ll take your skills as a trainer and pet partner to an entirely new level! What Makes These Classes Unique? No More Treats – Transition away from treat-based rewards and introduce the clicker for precise, effective communication. Real-World Challenges – Move beyond the classroom and train in new, distracting environments each week. Hands-On Experience – Practice reliability in exciting, unpredictable situations to ensure your dog responds confidently anywhere. Why Attendance Matters: Consistency is key! Each session builds on the last, and meeting at different locations weekly is crucial for success. Upon Graduation: You’ll feel confident in your dog’s ability to behave reliably in challenging, high-distraction environments, preparing you both for therapy work and Canine Good Citizen certification.

Welcome to Therapy K9 Academy! Our 6-week class, designed for puppies 16 weeks and older, combines fun with effective training to ensure your dog listens and takes pride in their behavior. Graduates will master core commands such as Sit, Down, Come, Stay, Walk politely on a leash, and Leave it, all while learning to handle distractions from other people and animals in a positive environment. Join us in fostering a strong bond between you and your furry companion! Class Requirements: * Dogs must pass a brief readiness evaluation * Must be current on all vaccinations * Keep your dog on a short leash and 6’ of space from other dogs * Collar or harness (if your dog pulls, I recommend a front-attach harness), 4’-6’ nylon, rope, or leather leash.  No retractable leashes, please. * Treat pouch (preferably on a belt) and 100+ tiny pieces of treats.  * Tennis shoes (for the human, not the puppy)
