The Right Paw

I somehow added myself to The Right Paws email list at some point and I’m so glad i did! I got an email about a shed hunt class and thought “that sounds fun!” So even though it was an hour away, I signed up. Mallory is such a great trainer, you can tell she really loves what she does and she really wants the dogs and handlers to succeed. Honey LOVES shed. She’s now titled and was the #1 OEB for 2026 and Mallory has also introduced us to man trailing. Scent games have really improved her confidence, too! I’m so happy I was on that mailing list :)

I have a 6 year old reactive Great Dane that I have been training for years. Finding facilities and classes available that support dogs with needs that are a little difficult has been a challenge for us, until we found The Right Paw! From day one Mallory got to know us, our needs, and made us feel welcome! We have joined scent club, built his (and mine!) confidence, trialed in our first event, and continue to try and learn new things! Zander RUNS to The Right Paw door for class! When we got our second Shiba Inu, Kisa, she was an amazing puppy. She was smart, friendly, and loved everyone, dogs and people. We did everything we thought we were supposed to do: puppy classes, socialization, training, lots of positive experiences. Then she hit adolescence, and everything changed literally overnight. She became reactive and aggressive toward other dogs, getting into multiple fights. But the hardest part was what we were dealing with at home. After her spay, she started going after our older dog out of nowhere. And the fights were serious and scary, with broken skin and blood. We had to keep them separated 24/7, and our home was divided into two parts by baby gates. It was exhausting and heartbreaking. We worked with a few trainers before finding Jen, and we started to lose hope. We were told this was probably just Kisa’s personality, that we’d likely have to manage the dogs separately forever, put Kisa on SSRIs and sedatives, or consider rehoming her. The last thing I wanted to do was give up on her. After a lot of googling, I found Training Without Conflict and started looking for TWC-certified trainers in MA, and that’s how we found Jen. Working with Jen completely changed things. From the very beginning she was honest about how difficult our case was and that it would be a hard journey. Our first training sessions focused on building a better relationship with our dogs through play and engagement. Then she added obedience and worked through the issues step by step. Every week, things got a little better. By week four, Kisa and Yoshi could be together again. By week five, they were playing. By our last session, we honestly didn’t have any problems left to work on, so Jen showed us how to teach Kisa fun tricks :) After our private sessions, we continued with the Basic Obedience group class to help Kisa socialize, and she absolutely shone there. Seeing the same dog who once couldn’t be around other dogs being calm in a group of dogs was something we didn’t think we’d experience again. It’s been a few months now, and things are great! Kisa is neutral around unfamiliar dogs, loves playing with Yoshi, and she’s even doing agility now, which is something Jen suggested because she saw potential in her. She absolutely thrives there. Jen literally gave us our normal life back. We’ll always be grateful, and we recommend The Right Paw to anyone who's dealing with behavioral issues or just wants to build a better relationship with their dog!
