We haven't had a puppy for about 12 years.
We'd like to do a better job of training this one.
How soon should we start a class?
Hi Jeanne, thank you so much for contacting The Persuaded Pooch. Congratulations on your new pup... How exciting! Normally, I would say that your pup should come to puppy class at 8 weeks of age for socialization. However, we are not able to have puppy classes currently due to restrictions on the space. Therefore, we recommend private training as soon as possible after you bring your puppy home. Sometimes we have clients book the New Puppy Consultation even before they bring their puppy home, so we can help them be prepared from Day 1. Do you train dogs to be therapy dogs? If so, what is the cost and length of training
Hi John! Thank you for your message. We do not certify therapy dogs. However, if you are seeking to get into a therapy dog certification program, or refine your dog’s therapy dog skills once you are in a program, we can assist. We reached out to Sarah and The Persuaded Pooch on the enthusiastic recommendation of a trainer friend (who no longer lives in town): and immediately found we had a long time to wait, and hoped the wait would be worth it! (This was near the beginning of the pandemic and she and her trainers had understandably put a hold on most training as they figured out how to navigate working in people's homes during Covid.) I am so happy we were able to hang on until we could work with her: our rescue dog has so many issues, and she was very helpful in guiding us in prioritizing what we needed most, first. Her empathy for both our dog and our family really helped me see the whole situation -- which I'd been feeling mildly desperate about -- in a new light. He's a better family member even though we still have a ways to go! Her methods were practical and gave us immediate results that only get better with practice. Her follow-up emails and videos and homework were incredibly helpful, too. Don't remain stuck in desperation! There is good help available.

We enrolled our puppy in the essential etiquette class with Nicole and Ioved learning together in the class setting. Nicole was great about listening to our concerns and helping us address them through positive training. I highly recommend this experience to other dog families.
