The Home Grown Dog

It's always hard to find someone who will train your new fur baby with the level of attention and care as if it were hers. Emily did an amazing job from start to finish. She treated Cocoa like part of the family and gave daily updates on her progress. I liked the fact that she only trains a limited number of dogs at a time and has an in person mid training check in. Even after Cocoa is back home, Emily checks in to make sure all is still going well. Love that! Highly recommend her.

Our yellow lab is an extremely energetic 11 month old. She was very difficult to control. She loves meeting new people and playing with other dogs. Unfortunately, she tended to jump on people and overwhelm other dogs. Emily taught us to understand her energies and moods. Emily also taught her how to calm down at appropriate times. Most importantly Emily taught us how to read our dog and to understand her better. Our dog is now well behaved, follows our commands and, more importantly, is a true pleasure to take out in public on walks and driving to local dog friendly stores. She still tries to chase rabbits in our neighborhood when on walks but easily comes back to heel on command. It almost like we have a new dog. Emily and her training is worth every penny. Not only that she is available after the training for any questions that we have.

We can’t recommend Emily highly enough! She had our seven month old mini Bernadoodle for three weeks, and the degree of improvement has been incredible. He already knew the basics and was crate trained, but like many teenage puppies, he had started testing boundaries and stopped listening consistently. We were looking for the next level of training: better manners around other dogs / in elevators, appropriate play, and loose – leash walking. Because of the busy city environment in which we live, we found ourselves constantly saying “leave it” and “no”which had become exhausted. After Emily‘s training, the improvement has been remarkable. Walks are now enjoyable instead of stressful, he walks politely by our side, and his jumping has improved. Emily not only trained our puppy, but also gave us the tools and confidence to continue his success at home. We are so grateful for everything she did for our puppy and our family. Thank you, Emily.

If I could give Emily more than five stars, I absolutely would. We enrolled our golden retriever puppy, Bonnie, in The Home Grown Dog's Now & Later program, and it was one of the best investments we've made. Emily is truly exceptional. She has an incredible understanding of dogs. She teaches you how dogs think, how to communicate with them, and how to build a relationship based on trust and consistency. I was honestly very nervous about hiring another dog trainer after having a difficult experience with a previous trainer for our older Golden Retriever. Because of that, I had a lot of trust issues. From the moment I met Emily, I knew Bonnie was in the best hands and I could trust her 110%. Emily is kind, incredibly knowledgeable, intelligent, funny, patient, and endlessly supportive. She genuinely cares about both the dogs and their families. The transformation in Bonnie has been amazing! Walks are now enjoyable instead of stressful, everyone in the home has so much more fun together, and peace has been restored in our home. If you're looking for a trainer who truly understands dogs, empowers owners, and treats your dog like family, I cannot recommend Emily and The Home Grown Dog highly enough. We had an amazing experience with Emily and her 3 week board and train program for our 6 month old Irish Setter/Lab mix. The transformation has honestly been incredible. We sent him with a very long list of behaviors we needed help with, and Emily was patient, encouraging, and completely judgment free. She took the time to work through every single issue, and the progress he made exceeded our expectations. His impulse control was basically nonexistent when we dropped him off, and one of the biggest changes has been his ability to self settle. She also taught us exactly how to help him settle at home, which has been such a game changer. We had two training sessions with our dog and Emily and she spent so much time making sure we understood how to continue building on everything he learned. She sent us home with the training tools she used for him along with homework for us, and a clear plan to keep him trained. I never once worried about him while he was with her because it was obvious how much she genuinely loves and cares for every dog she works with. She also sends updates every weekday, so we knew how he was doing and what he was working on. Investing in her program was one of the best decisions we’ve made. Emily is incredibly knowledgeable, truly cares, and delivers results. We couldn’t recommend her more!
