I am honored to be a part of your journey on getting your first dog and I can't think of a better first dog than Gunner. He's such a goofball and I'm so happy he's found the best home and a family who is just as sweet as he is. Hi Clayton, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're not sure why you didn't reach out about these issues, instead you allowed them to persist for months and then decided to leave a negative review.<br><br>We are a foster-based rescue and rely on fosters to inform us of the dog's personality, quirks and behavioral issues, if any. His former foster has consistently fostered for us for over 2 years and we trust that she gave us an honest description of him and of her experience with him. <br><br>If you refer to the texts we exchanged, we were honest about him not having been cat tested. We could have lied and said he had, since you have a cat, but we didn't. We also said his foster felt that he may be fine with cats given his manners and "polite playing style" (with her dog). She also said that out of all the dogs she had fostered, he was the most well behaved in her home.<br><br>Due to his small size (26lbs), friendliness towards other dogs and him being a very quiet dog in his foster's home, we felt that he would thrive in an apartment. <br><br>No organization can predict or guarantee a dog's behavior in every setting, especially 4 months later. In fact, this is a term in our adoption contract, that you initialed. A dog is a live being with its own mind and personality. How you handle your dog affects how he behaves. If a dog lacks structure, household rules and isn't held accountable when he misbehaves, it will become disobedient and unruly. If it lacks confidence in its handlers, it will feel the need to step up and advocate for his own space amidst anything or anyone it deems a threat. <br><br>We're not sure why you ruled out all shelter dogs. Yes, they can display unpleasant behaviors due to kennel stress but again, this can be healed and corrected with proper training, if the owner is committed to the well being of the dog. <br><br>We find it odd that just because you and your partner have both had dogs in the past, you feel that neither of you could have contributed to his current behavior. Every dog is unique and has different needs. A dog grows and evolves just like humans do. To have a dog means to accept having to potentially navigate any challenges of that nature. <br><br>It doesn't benefit us to lie about a dog's temperament. It's dangerous to put the dog's and anyone's safety at risk, it's a liability to us, and the dog will probably end up getting rehomed (more work for us and unwanted stress for the dog). Most importantly, we operate out of a place of integrity. Gus had multiple adoption applications. We didn't lie to get him adopted and out of our care. He was also present at our adoption event where members of the public brought their dogs to meet with all of our adoptable dogs. We would never bring a reactive dog to an adoption event as it would create chaos and put people's and other dogs' safety at risk.<br><br>It's worth noting that you were thrilled at how responsive we were as an organization, how promptly we reviewed and vetted your application, how friendly we were to you, your partner and your father, and you even thanked us for such a smooth adoption process and working with your schedule to get the meet and greet done in a timely manner. We also told you that we were available to assist in any way, especially during his decompression and transitionary period. <br><br>Lastly, we don't take deposits on dogs. You paid for his adoption fee in full at the end of the meet and greet, when you and your partner decided you wanted to adopt him. <br><br>If you would like to train your dog, we have several trainers we can recommend. If you would like to rehome him, please email us. Per our policy, you would get 100% of the rehoming fees. Again, we're sorry to hear about your challenges but giving us a 1-star review 4 months later because your dog needs obedience training is akin to giving a movie theater a 1-star review because you watched a movie that others loved but you didn't.
