The Daily Dog

Donna Dunlop worked with me and my dog Delilah for two months. She is amazing! My boyfriend came to our first lesson basically just to humor me and was thinking, "Ho hum, this should be boring." Well, afterward he told me, "I was just standing there with my eyes wide open. She's a magician!" Donna knows dogs. Period. Also, Donna has the winning combination of extensive dog knowledge AND expert people skills (not all dog people have great people skills). Donna was able to explain what we needed to do with Delilah in easy-to-understand terminology that worked. I was able to email her in between lessons, and she always replied promptly and thoroughly to my emails. Whatever issues your dog might have, I have complete confidence that Donna can help you work through them and achieve success.

I can't recommend Donna Dunlop and the Daily Dog highly enough! We brought our rescue dog Hunter home in May and before the end of July we had learned everything possible about managing his behavior from our sessions with Donna. Critical to dog training is to understand that your dog is smart -- it's we humans who need to learn, and that is the hallmark of Donna's instruction. Many have written that she is a dog expert; she absolutely is, but more importantly, she knows how to teach adults, a rare and hard to master skill. Donna's approach is experiential, ensuring that you DO each skill she demonstrates for you, and making sure you understand how to practice with your dog. She handled our "oops, forgot that" moments with tact and non-judgmental reinforcement, which re-energized us to work with our dog. When my dog buddy and I had our first consultation with Donna she asked me what I wanted to get out of training. I told her I just wanted to trust Buddy. That was exactly what I got out of our 6 training classes. With our new training skills I now know how to take control of a situation and I can trust Buddy will respond positively. Going into our classes a few big things we worked on where come, first in a low distracted area (my back yard) then in a high distracted area (the neighborhood, to a big open field). This is something that Buddy and I will have to practice for a very long time but I can now trust Buddy will come in any type of environment with the right approach. Another skill we worked on was "place". With this command Buddy can now hang tight comfortably for a longer duration whether I'm catching up with a friend outside, eating dinner at home, hanging out with me while I grab a bite to eat at a restaurant, or just showing off his ability to sit anywhere I point to and say "place". With all our new skills Donna has taught us that Buddy and I can both have confidence in each other. I am so glad to have worked with Donna and look forward to continuing Buddies training throughout life with her. I recommend Donna to ANYONE she is very down to earth and knows her stuff. She was so easy to work with and has a great personality!

I had assumed that I could train my lab puppy by watching dog training videos online. After certain techniques weren't making a difference to with my high energy puppy, I had to look for some more help. Donna came highly recommended by friends and neighbors. From our first consultation, Donna created a training plan customized to our families' goals using techniques to motivate Salty. She recommended specific products to buy (Salty's favorite dog treats!) and trained US how to making training fun, and above all, effective. After just 5 lessons, Salty can politely meet guests coming to the house and can walk on leash without dragging me down the street. My only regret is not calling Donna before we established some poor behaviors. We also just used Donna for boarding and from the pictures she sent, it looks like Salty's vacation may have more fun than ours!
