Terroux Dog Training

Ted saved my relationship with my German shepherd, Aileron. Aileron would bark and lunge at other dogs, and the food-and-toy-only techniques I was using were failing. Initially, I assumed the problem was a handler-problem. No, it was a training method problem. I was venting to a friend about it and she suggested that I reach out to the Terroux family, as she had success with Sally Terroux in the past. Ted suggested that I enroll him in a Canine Good Citizen class. Class had 10-14 dogs to work around and I initially I was red with embarrassment due to his explosive reactivity around other dogs. Ted and his helpers showed me how to stop his staring at other dogs, and how to hold him accountable when he popped off. I did as told. By the second class - visible results. My German shepherd started to ignore other dogs. Formational heel drills: one of the highlights of class were the formational heel drills. Ted had our walk dogs in formation in an orderly fashion. It felt structured. Under control. We just had to do as instructed. Not only did my dog's reactivity decline, my boy graduated class with his canine good citizen certificate. Proud dog mom! The ultimate value here was the realization that there was a world of effective training strategies that the pure-positive ideology was hindering. World expanded. When I was on the board for a golden retriever rescue, the rescue often turned to Ted Terroux and team, and they were so helpful. While I adopted my golden retriever puppy, I knew I wanted to work with them. This company has been around for over 50 years, clearly helping thousands of dogs, and I cannot say enough good things about their team! We started with their basic obedience classes and then did their board and train program for Maverick, and it was absolutely instrumental. The program helped him grasp the training fundamentals beautifully, but I quickly learned that the training is just as much for the owner as it is for the dog! When he returned home, we were able to deepen our bond and continue building on that foundation. The Terroux team provided incredible ongoing guidance and are so approachable and willing to answer any questions! Their Zoom videos, which are highly beneficial, contain direct content, and are incredibly easy to apply at home. Maverick successfully completed his Canine Good Citizen course, making him a confident, well-trained dog and helping me become a much more responsible owner. Later, when I adopted my second dog, Lucy, she was very shy and fearful. The team was incredibly patient, supportive, and ready to help us navigate her specific needs. Lucy just finished her basic obedience class, and I am already looking forward to bringing her back for her own Canine Good Citizen class! It is also incredibly helpful that they offer training at their boarding facility, so the dogs can continue learning and reinforcing good habits while staying there. What sets Ted Terroux and his team apart is their positive reinforcement approach. Their advice is always practical, and everyone on the staff is exceptionally kind. You can genuinely tell that they love their work and are completely committed to helping both the dogs and the owners succeed. I cannot recommend them enough!

Ted and Team are fantastic! We enrolled our pup in the basic obedience (group) class. It was an awesome experience. The training is positive reinforcement-centric, which was critical for us. They efficiently break down understanding how we interact with our dog and the why behind everything. Ted approaches training in a serious, but approachable and fun manner. Highly recommend!
