Taize Shepherd Kennel

I adopted a Japanese Akita Inu from the local shelter. She was two years old, crate abused, human abused and never trained. The first thing I did was set up classes with Charlene Marchand to train my dog. Charlene was incredible. She taught me to treat my dog with the utmost respect at all times and to uphold the training (rather than being inconsistent). My dog loved the trainings, especially the clapping for her successes. By the time we were done, Kyo had achieved a Canine Good Citizen status and a Therapy Dog status. My dog continued to be an exceptionally well behaved and loving dog for the remainder of her 12.5 years. Thank you Charlene!

I would like to give high praise to Charlene Marchand at Taize Shepherd dog training in North Chatham NY. My vet recommended Charlene to me when I got my 1 year old puppy. I am thankful they recommended her and so grateful I got in a group class with Charlene and 6 other dogs. It was the best thing I could have done for my dog and myself. Charlene has a beautiful facility where she trains in bucolic Columbia County NY. It is so obvious she loves dogs and understands that the dog owner is the one being trained. She is a highly skilled trainer for all dogs and a wonderful human being that gives back to her community by helping with dog rescue and sheltering. Her positive reinforcement dog training, her patience, intelligence and sense of humor made the 6 week class something I and my dog looked forward to each week. I can't wait to go back for more. My two dogs, both adopted mix breeds, and I have been training with Charlene Marchand at Taizé Shepherd since 2023. A fellow dog rescue volunteer recommended Charlene when my then three-year old pit bull mix developed situational anxiety. I scheduled a private consultation with Charlene and learned strategies to help my dog. I then joined group training classes with both dogs. My older dog participates in rally, and my younger dog has attended several training classes, earned her canine good citizen certification, and has prepared for therapy dog testing. Charlene‘s approach informs and aligns with my vision to promote my dogs’ well-being, safety, skills, and happiness. She enthusiastically welcomes new clients and thoughtfully puts together small classes to promote a fun, engaging, and safe learning environment. Charlene is kind, thorough, direct, and patient. She finds the best in all of the dogs and their people. Charlene promotes a camaraderie where every dog and their handlers’ strengths are appreciated regardless of current skill level. She encourages and provides clear instructions on how to accomplish goals. At every class, Charlene provides printouts of the day’s work and articles about dog behavior, training, and sport, which I’ve compiled in a binder for easy access to these useful resources. 17 years ago I brought my little timid blonde labradoodle to tiaze Shepard. In only a few weeks her confidence changed completely. Over the next 14 years of her life she was loved by all. Best behaved dog I ever knew and I can thank Tiaze Shepard for all of it. Now all this time later, I start classes this week again with a little rambunctious new puppy ..... Ready to have another round of training for Charlene! She does so amazing with training not only the dogs but also the handlers.
