Synergy Dog Training & Behavior Solutions

We worked mainly with Anne to help our dog refocus some of her energy and increasing "policing" behavior into more appropriate habits. From the initial consultation to the final training, our experience couldn't have been better. I'll share more details below, but in case you aren't interested in reading all that - I found the "train the trainer" approach really valuable so that I, as an owner, could learn the correct tools, tips, and tricks to ensure that my dogs have the best quality of life. Dog training is certainly an investment, but I'm so happy that we found Synergy. Any training needs we have in the future, for either a reminder course or a new pup, we'll definitely be back. For context, our 7yr old dog had started to police our 11yr old dog at random times, even though they had both been together and with us for about 6 years. During the consultation, Sarah asked really good questions about the behaviors that were bringing us to look for training, the home dynamics, and she even suggested some pre-training ideas on what might help our situation immediately. I really appreciated her taking the time to understand our unique situation since every dog and every home environment is different. She provided an overview on a few different training options, and we decided to sign up for a series of 1-on-1 training sessions (4 sessions over the course of 4 weeks). The 1-on-1 sessions were a great balance: We did the first two sessions at the Synergy facility to work on getting our 7yr old to understand and learn the basic commands that she had forgotten due to us not keeping up with her basic obedience as well as we should have (things like "come" and "place") and we also learned tips for how to better interpret our dogs body language, how to interact effectively when we saw tense behavior cues, and how to break up a scuffle without escalating the situation. The second two sessions were done at our home, with our 11yr old dog present, which was also really valuable so Anne could observe how the dogs interact generally and give us specific tips, tricks and training options based on how our home is set up. We saw almost immediate improvement in our 7yr old dog's attitude once we started working regularly on her training and now our reluctant 11yr old also likes to get in on the action when she sees the treat pouch come out for training time. We are so very grateful to Sarah and Annie at Synergy for their work with our pup, Maggie, and us. Maggie is a very smart and reasonably high energy 2-year-old border collie mix rescue. In the months we had her before finding Synergy, we had struggled, significantly, with some of her classic "herding" behaviors, including jumping and nipping, as well as pulling on leash and reactivity. After a few weeks of training a couple of hours a day for four days each week, that struggle is over. Sarah worked with us to understand our specific training needs, and provided tons of input along the way about different ways we can consider dealing with certain behaviors we saw around the house, and out in the world. She also gave us access to videos of her training sessions with Maggie, for our reference. Our desire to train without e-collars was readily accommodated. The whole process was not just effective; Maggie was genuinely excited every time we approached the training facility, and we all had a lot of fun with it. Also, the training Synergy provided was not for Maggie alone. We were also taught how to communicate more effectively with her, how to become more attuned to what she needed, and how to continue to support her training by integrating it into our everyday interactions with her (walks, play, etc). Our interactions with Sarah and Annie were delightful, and their knowledge, skills and competence were off the charts. The result is far beyond just a more obedient dog; it's a much happier and more relaxed pup, and a happier household.
