Sundance Retrievers

Our experience with Sundance Retrievers was outstanding. Sheryl and her staff were professional, caring and highly knowledgeable. Additionally, the facility was clean, well-organized and set up for the dogs' success. Our Hannah spent 3 months in Sheryl's program and was able to pass her Canine Good Citizen test and obtain her Therapy Dog certification on her first try. She now comes to school with me everyday and spends her day doing her favorite things (visiting classrooms, the counseling office, the Student Wellness Room and her favorite activity, supervising class change in the hallway outside of the Jr. High Counseling Office). In the busy school environment she is calm, well-mannered, and reliable, making a real difference for students, faculty and administration. The expertise and support from Sheryl and the Sundance Retrievers Family made the process smooth and set us up for long term success. Hannah is thriving in her role at the school and is also a wonderfully behaved and loving family pet at home. We are grateful for the excellent work that Sundance Retrievers did and highly recommend them to anyone seeking therapy dog training of the highest quality.

Our new Chocolate Lab, Remi, came to our home at the beginning of August and we could not be happier. After a lot of research and contemplation, we landed on Sundance Retrievers. We wanted a dog that had a solid foundation and a head start on training and advanced obedience skills that would allow for a smooth transition into our home. We live in Florida and could not make it up for a pre-visit, but Sheryl came so highly recommended and answered all of our questions so promptly that we felt 100% comfortable. After what felt like an eternity to us (we have a 10 year old who asked daily when Remi would get here) she arrived and has fit in so perfectly. She has the best demeanor and, in true Lab form, she only wants to be next to us at all times. After a couple of weeks adjusting to our home and getting used to us, it is clear she had the training that we were looking for. She is wonderful on walks and so polite when she eats. She is just so darn sweet. We remind ourselves constantly that she IS still a puppy and that’s important when she gets super excited and playful. She’s not perfect all the time, but most of the time and we couldn’t be happier to have her as part of our family. Thank you Sheryl and the rest of the Sundance crew for helping Remi become a wonderful companion. We can’t wait to take her on our family adventures!

As a teacher and librarian at James W. Parker Middle School, I can’t speak highly enough about Sundance Retrievers! Over the past school year, we have had the absolute pleasure of partnering with this incredible local business in a variety of meaningful and educational ways. From hosting a field trip for our Social Arts class—where students learned firsthand what goes into raising a service or therapy dog and had the chance to play with puppies—to visiting our 5th graders during a service dog unit in ELA, Sheryl and her team have gone above and beyond. They’ve worked closely with our life skills classroom, brought joy to our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, and even came to our Extended School Year (ESY) program this summer to provide therapeutic recreation time for students. Sheryl is incredibly generous, flexible, and kind, often accommodating last-minute requests with grace and enthusiasm. Her trainers are equally amazing—patient, knowledgeable, and so good with our students. They not only bring comfort and joy through their dogs but also educate students on the proper care of animals and the vital role service dogs play in our communities. Sundance Retrievers has truly become a valued part of our school community, and I’m beyond excited to continue working with them in the coming year. I first came into contact with Sundance Retrievers through my work as an educator with students who have a variety of different needs. Cheryl and her incredible team brought several of their dogs to our school, not only to give our students an unforgettable experience, but also to help expose their dogs to a range of personalities and environments. It was clear from that day just how thoughtful, intentional, and skilled this team is. The dogs were calm, well-behaved, and clearly adored by their handlers. The trainers were kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable — answering questions, engaging with our students with such care, and demonstrating true professionalism.
