Prior to going home each of our Companion dogs have their formal obedience of Here, Heel and Sit, Crate trained and started on their house training, have gone on several field trips to different locations to demonstrate these skills and have spent time in multiple family settings . After this training is completed and sending many dogs home, successfully; we have come to realize that the success of our students is based primarily on three things: 1. How well the client followed the guide ( that they agree to do when purchasing the dog): We use the same, proven method with each dog we purchase for ourselves. It allows the dog to settle in quietly, have safe areas and work on their known language of obedience, with you. If you deviate or decide not to do it ( 15 day guide) then you are teaching your dog a new skill. New skills mean mistakes, because that is how they or anyone learns a new skill. 2. Communication: I am always available to help, whether it is a questions or training problem. The easiest way to do this is by simply filming you and your dog working together, and sending it to me. I can recreate the problem or show you the solution. The more willing you are to communicate the quicker I can solve problems. 3. Personalities: Dogs and Humans have personalities. In the event that you do not get along with your dog/ don't like your dog's personality, energy level etc. You can return your dog and we will help choose a better fit. This is the hardest of the three, because we can't train for it, we can't prepare them for it. This is between the dog and the client but as always we offer support. In the matter of Sandie, * The first communication I received from you was over a month after Sandie went home. On the morning of 5/21/2018 ( unfortunately, I cannot upload emails or training photos to this platform). In short, you were asking for training assistance and I responded immediately, asking for more details so I could better assist. I did not receive further communication from you until six months later ( at that time, Sandie had spent as much time in your home as he did here). The next email I received from you was on 11/15/2018, at this time the relationship between you and Sandie had devolved to where you no longer wanted him and he was living under your porch. We agreed through email, that perhaps a break is needed to help your relationship, and that Sandie will return for a 30 day obedience tune up. I offered to pay for his flight, all you needed to do was get a health certificate so he could fly. Upon taking him to the vet, you were unable to obtain a Heath Certificate because he had an untreated bacterial infection. In short, he was too sick to be flown to us. It was then agreed that you would continue the antibiotics , vet care and he would be sent back as soon as that was done. I reached out a few weeks later ( as we were saving a spot for him ) and was told you'd get it done, that you would get back to me. * The final email, I received from you was on 2/25/2018, almost a year after Sandie has gone home, stating pretty much the above. I responded to your email, I again offering to pay for Sandie's flight, but no response. At any point in the last year, I have been happy and willing to assist you with any problems you may have had/ having with Sandie. To date, I have no idea how you were communicating with him, what collar / leash nor what commands were being used , despite asking for more information. Had Sandie been returned, at anytime in the last year, you would have received a refund or a new trained dog. Despite my offering several times to pay for his flight home, free tune up etc, you decided to give him away. (You are welcome to provide my number to his new family, as I would be willing to answer any training questions that they may have or again offer assistance in him settling into his new home.) As far as clients go, you sir, are in unrepeated company, a sole category of all your own. While I have had clients reach out for training help, I have never had one be as unresponsive as you. My job, long after the training is done, is to help with questions or aid in training tips, I do this every day. Whether it a question of heeling, food, toys, or what color bed they like, I take the time from my training day to make sure every question is answered.The most important aspect of my job, is making our students successful, but it is impossible to do without communication. I have never had one of my students removed from the household, to dwell underneath a porch. For a sentient being that was raised to seek human affection and look to his family for direction, to end up outside, alone, this breaks my heart and I have lost more nights sleep over this then I can count. Finally, I have never had a student so ill, that he or she could not be flown for training, ever. While we disagree with your review, we always try to take time to self examine and explore new ways to help our dogs and clients be successful. Because of your review, we've changed our go home program. In addition to private journals that are updated weekly, training photos that are viewed on Facebook and training videos that are included within your journal; we have now begun to do proof of skills videos that will be sent to the client prior to the dog going home.
