Alex and Jess were wonderful!! They’re both incredibly knowledgeable and caring towards both my Remi girl and me. They explained and showed me ways I could understand my dog’s needs better, strengthen our bond, and help relieve some of her anxiety by teaching me new training skills. All of the feedback given has been so helpful and even after one session, I’m already seeing improvements!

What does trust-based dog training mean?
Trust-based dog training focuses on building a strong relationship between you and your dog through clear communication, leadership, and mutual respect. Instead of relying solely on obedience, we prioritize understanding your dog’s needs and motivations. This approach leads to long-term behavioral change, making your dog more confident, responsive, and eager to follow your lead.

Do you use positive reinforcement in your dog training?
Yes! Our dog training programs incorporate positive reinforcement techniques alongside gentle course corrections when necessary. How do you stop dogs from pulling on the leash, especially during hikes or walks?
At Strong Bond Dog Training, we take a trust-based approach to leash training. Instead of forcing your dog to walk in a rigid position, we teach them that leash walking is a partnership. We help your dog understand that being on a leash still allows them to meet their needs—whether it's sniffing, exploring, or moving at a comfortable pace. We also guide you in choosing the right leash length and walk style to create a stress-free experience.

Can you help with my reactive dog?
Yes! We specialize in training reactive dogs by addressing the root cause of their behavior. Whether your dog displays fear-based reactivity, aggression, or anxiety, our training techniques focus on building confidence, trust, and calmness. We use gradual exposure, structured exercises, and clear leadership to help your dog feel more secure and less reactive to triggers.

Do you have any puppy training tips?
Yes! The best thing you can do is start puppy training early. Your puppy is always learning—so the sooner you teach them boundaries, communication, and leadership, the easier it will be as they grow. Our puppy training programs focus on socialization, leash training, basic requests, and trust-building, ensuring your pup grows into a well-balanced adult dog.

What is psychiatric service dog training?
A psychiatric service dog is trained to assist individuals with mental health conditions through specific tasks and behavioral support. Our service dog training program is designed for both the dog and the handler, ensuring they work as a team. At the end of our training, we offer a psychiatric service dog certification to qualifying teams.

What is the difference between obedience training and trust-based training?
Obedience training focuses on making the dog comply with commands, often without addressing the root cause of behavioral issues. Trust-based dog training, on the other hand, looks at why a dog is acting a certain way and teaches them through communication, leadership, and relationship-building. This leads to lasting behavioral change instead of just quick fixes.

Alex is a true dog whisperer, and he's taught us to be dog whisperers, too. We've worked with other dog trainers, who were fine on the basics, but Alex's approach was so much more than basic. He really taught us how to relate with our dog, rather than try and get her to do what we wanted, when we wanted. Which is all to say - he did a great job of training US (which we needed) on how to be good pack members, and pack leaders, when needed. Alex's approach is truly unique and has been marvelously effective with our pup. I couldn't recommend him enough!

In short - do not hesitate, sign up and do it. Your dog will thank you, your spouse/kids/family with thank you, and you will thank yourself for learning how to effectively communicate with your dog, all in a loving and supportive manner. If this sounds like a review of a relationship coach, it is no mistake. Alex opened my eyes (and heart) to enable a better relationship with Peep, our 3-year old Havanese. We refer to Alex as the CLG (conscious leadership group) dog trainer. And yes, most of the training is of us, not the pooch.

I can’t say enough good things about Alex and Strong Bond Training. The approach is relationship-based, respectful, and grounded in trust. It’s not about control—it’s about connection. The training is kind to your pet and feels like the way you’d lovingly guide a child—with patience, consistency, and compassion. My French bulldog, Stellar, is being trained to be a psychiatric service dog, and I’ve worked with many trainers over the years. Alex is in a class of his own. His creative, intuitive methods are unlike anything I’ve experienced—and they work. Stellar is calmer, more confident, and clearly feels safe and understood. Alex truly is a dog whisperer. He helps build a foundation for a responsive, emotionally attuned companion. Stellar adores him, and I do too. If you’re looking for thoughtful, heart-centered training that honors the bond between you and your dog, Strong Bond Training is something truly special. Bonus: Alex even offers an online course to help reinforce the training at home!
Alex was an amazing trainer! My dog Tucker had some social anxiety and general puppy training skills to work on. Alex’s method of training and inquiry has helped immensely! Tucker is a whole new boy!
