Steady On Point

If I could give Steady On Point a 10 star rating, I wouldn't hesitate to do so. We are truly blessed to have worked with Alan for our 2 year old Weimaraner. From the first time I spoke with Alan on the phone about the possibility of him training our dog, I could tell Steady On Point was different than the other trainers I had talked to. Alan was very informative about how the process works and he encouraged us to bring our dog out, tour the facility, and meet him face to face. He was great with our dog and took the time to get to know us and explain things further. It was nice to hear about his training strategy and methods. Everything made sense and you could tell that he knows his stuff and does what's best for each individual dog. He made the decision very easy for where to send ours. During our dog's time with Alan, we received many progress photos and videos as well as texts and emails about how things were going. It was nice to hear in the videos how positive and patient Alan was with the dogs he works with. His pure love for dogs and their well-being is always on display and at the forefront of everything he does. This added an extra level of comfort and trust that was much appreciated. Upon arrival when we came to pick our dog up, Alan had everything set up in the field ahead of time so he could take us through what our dog had learned. He was very thorough with instructions and guidance for us and he took the time to make sure we understood how to handle our dog in the field. It was very obvious that our dog had improved drastically with general obedience and he is now a very well rounded bird dog also. He is great at holding his points, is steady through shot, and is a great retriever. His drive and desire to be in the field is very evident. I can't speak highly enough about Alan and Steady On Point. He truly goes above and beyond in every aspect of what he does and we would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for gun dog training.

Alan and Steady on Point are wonderful. He had our Vizsla, Olive for 45 days. He is an incredible trainer. Sensitive, responsive, practical and experienced. His love for these animals is always on display. He would consistently give us updates about our dogs progress and well being with videos and photos documenting her journey. When we picked up Olive she was happy, healthy and in excellent spirits. She was holding her point perfectly, steady to shot and retrieving birds with style. I can't recommend Alan highly enough. Finding the right person, that you can trust, to care and develop your dog can be daunting. But Alan is the real deal. You would be lucky to work with him!

Known Alan for 10+ years, and this is my 2nd dog he has helped train. 1st was an American Brittany, and this year a llewelyn. Both came with their own challenges, and Alan built a training plan that worked. One was a cautious cognitive hunter and the other pure drive and athleticism. Woodbine Kennels was great and the facilities worked well for the training needed. No question a lot of time was spent 1 on 1 with the Pup.

If you don't hire Alan from Steady On Point to train your hunting dog, then you're making a mistake. Very few people are as passionate about training hunting dogs as Alan and it shows in his work product. I sent my GSP, Chance, at month 7 to Alan's 2-week obedience training. I have to say, Alan did a fantastic job with Chance. Chance has no issues being off leash now, comes when called, sits, and stays all regardless of whether there are other distractions or not. Chance will be coming back to Alan to begin his actual hunting training this year. Alan's training is worth every penny. Very satisfied!

Alan Ott is a true professional and a master at his craft. First and foremost his love of dogs and their well-being is paramount. Alan trained my 1 year old Vizsla over a 6 week period. There were obstacles during the training, but Alan was extremely patient with my dog. Alan routinely kept me in the loop on the progress of the training. I was also allowed to participate in the training and see first hand the progress my dog was making. Alan is a stand up guy, who only wants the best for the dog. Alan educated me on his training techniques and that provided me with a clear understanding of his program. I highly recommend Steady On Point for any bird dog. I am happy to say that my dog got his first pheasant the other day. I was extremely happy and it would not have been possible without Alan’s training methods.
