Benny’s journey began with a hopeful start as a foster dog, but it quickly became apparent that he carried some significant challenges. After a brief adoption that unfortunately didn't last, Benny was returned, revealing a severe case of resource guarding. This manifested as intense possessiveness over food, toys, and even my presence, leading to genuinely concerning aggressive outbursts. There were occasions when his guarding behavior, particularly around food, resulted in painful bites. Given his strong attachment to me, and my commitment to helping him, I decided to formally adopt Benny. It was clear, however, that we needed professional intervention to address his ingrained behaviors, especially the food aggression. That's when we sought the expertise of Spot On K9, specifically working with Steve. Steve's approach was nothing short of exceptional. His method is both balanced and incredibly comprehensive, focusing on understanding the root causes of Benny’s behavior while equipping me with the tools to manage and redirect it. He expertly guided me in identifying Benny's specific triggers – those subtle cues that would previously escalate into aggression. More importantly, he taught me effective, humane strategies to quickly redirect Benny's focus, empowering him to make more appropriate choices in challenging situations. Witnessing Benny’s cognitive engagement, seeing him pause and actively choose a better path, has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The transformation in his behavior is remarkable. I am confident that with the invaluable knowledge and practical techniques Steve provided, Benny will continue to progress and overcome his past difficulties. I am very grateful for this experience.
