You need to wait. Retrieving a limit of ducks in a flooded rice field is much different than doing a swim-by in the same temperatures. The risk outweighs the reward. No harm will come from waiting for warmer water temps.

We like to begin training around at around 6 months of age. This allows the puppy to gain confidence and essential socialization before arriving for training. If formal training begins too soon, you run the risk of creating a hesitant and unconfident dog.
