Behavior Specialists can work with either dogs and owners that have already developed some type of negative behavior or owners who want to work with their young dogs to prevent behavior issues from occurring in the future.
All of our programs are structured around communication and leadership first, because no amount of treats or toys can make up for a lack of trust, understanding, or respect.
Due to the complex nature of the canine mind, we don’t advocate any single training method or tool. Each dog must be evaluated individually before the most effective method can be determined.

Why is it so hard to get ahold of anyone I have left Numerous voice mails and have not heard back i have emailed them I don't have any other way inless I drive down there but being i live in grand forks i would like to talk and discuss Before hand
Hi Matthew, it looks like our staff responded to all of your emails within 48 business hours which is our current expected wait time. If you call it could be a longer wait time as we only have one staff member who does phone calls, so we ask you continue to email or if you would like a phone call back to request one via voicemail or email and someone will call you back. We cannot say enough good things about smart K9. Our dog, Blueberry, is an extremely nervous girl. When we went for the evaluation at SK9, she was too nervous to even walk in the door at first. Hannah and the whole team worked extensively with both us and Blueberry to help build her confidence so she can enjoy more of the world. The team at SK9 spent time teaching us how to work with Blueberry on many different engagement and confidence building activities. One of our main goals was to be able to bring Blueberry into a store. After a few weeks of training, she was able to do this and not be nervous about it! Blueberry is a much more confident girl after completing her day training at SK9. Since finishing up with day training, we still enjoy all the other client perks that SK9 offers including sending her to daycare for some more training and socialization as well as participating in pack walks with other dogs and owners!

We highly recommend Smart K9 Training! Our puppy had so much energy and such a lack of self control and we knew we needed help since we have an older dog and a toddler around. Smart K9 taught him and us so many valuable things such as staying on a 'climb', laying in a 'down' position, walking nicely on a leash instead of pulling and lunging, having a calmer disposition when being groomed at home and being okay with being in his kennel. At home, we continue to work on those things and more as Smart K9 continues to support us as we keep working on the training processes.

Wow, without meeting me or the dog we are having issues with ..this person that was supposed to evaluate our dog decides to cancel because only one of our dogs needs an evaluation but apparently if you don't do both they cancel and refuse to evaluate the dog that has issues

Smart K9 is great they do such a good job! Our sheepadoodle Elliott had issues with pulling so hard when walking and was timid on new experiences and things. His training was a game changer for him and us. Walking him is now a breeze and he has more confidence. We get compliments on how well behaved this fun loving goof is. Thanks to Smart K9.

We heard about SmartK9 through a friend who recommended them. After a consultation with trainers, they recommended a board-and-train for our super energetic cattle dog/border collie mix, who badly needed obedience and leash training. The outcome was amazing! We learned how to communicate with our dog and develop a routine that have made walks, playtime, and downtime so much better and easier! Since the first round of training, we have brought our dog back to SmartK9 for boarding and daycare, which have helped us learn even more and make adjustments as needed. The trainers are amazingly talented, friendly and helpful. They took advantage of our dog’s strengths and behaviors to help her learn and taught us creative ways to help her use her energy by following our lead. Highly recommend!
