Ian is truly a dog whisperer. When we first got our Goldendoodle Gabby she was constantly biting me and my clothes. We were very close to giving her up. Ian came to our home and gave us techniques to eliminate this behavior. Within a very short time she stopped the nipping. We were able to keep our girl and now she is a sweetheart. Ian also taught us how to correct pulling on the leash. Ian trains owners with simple, insightful instructions with emphasis on repetition. We highly recommend Smart Dogs to anyone who wants a richer, happier relationship with their dog.

I hired Ian of Smart Dogs Training after seeing the beautifully trained dogs he had already worked with. I told him of my very reactive rescue dog, who I was no longer able to walk with due to how stressed she was at anything we would come across, be it other people, dogs, birds, squirrels, a blowing trash bag, outside. And objects that were in a different place in our home. I knew she was scared, but to outsiders she was a nasty dog to avoid. He assured me he could work with her. She had been through one puppy training class earlier on, but as she had gotten bigger, I couldn't control her any longer on walks. We started training and after Ian sat down with her on the first visits and asked a lot of questions of me, while slowly gaining her trust, we got started with the first session. By the time he left I felt I could start the walking training without fearing she would be out of my control. We worked on other behaviors with each training and I now feel comfortable taking her on long walks past busy intersections that she previously feared, and I am able to have her in control after strangers enter our home. We are now done with our first 6 sessions and I will soon be moving but I feel confident we will continue to make progress. Ian has suggested I stay in touch with them and be sure to reach out if I have further questions. I am so glad I asked him to work with us, as I now have a sweet and much more manageable dog.
