At Sit Means Sit Metro Detroit, our passion is developing the relationship between dogs and their families, allowing the most freedom and safety for the dog and the most peace of mind for the people. We train for today’s busy lifestyle.
We train dogs for obedience and behavior modification. We’re proud that the majority of our new clients each year come through referrals from our clients and local veterinarians.
Our goal, regardless of the program our clients choose, is to make each client feel welcome and encouraged, and to treat each dog like our own.

Do you offer board and train programs?
At our Rochester Hills facility, we have a beautiful Immersion Inn for our board and train program. It's a clean, intimate setting, holding a maximum of 18 dogs. Our rooms at the Inn frequently book weeks in advance for our board and train programs. We have programs of different lengths, depending on the needs of your dog and family. A trainer will be happy to discuss the options with you during your free consultation.

Yes! We offer a no-cost consultation at our facility located at M59/Crooks in Rochester Hills. It gives you a chance to see our 8,500 square foot facility and to meet with a member of our team who will give you a recommendation about which of our training programs will fit the needs of your family best.

Do you offer a puppy class? If so, what are the age requirements and cost?
We sure do! We offer a four-week, six-week or eight-week session of classes.
We provide a rolling enrollment so you can choose when to start. Puppies between 10 and 22 weeks of age are welcome!
Classes are held on Mondays @ 7:00 pm, Wednesdays @ 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm and Saturdays @ 9:00 am.
The cost for the program ranges between $199.00 - $399.00.

Does this company use electric collars for training?
Yes.. however do your research when looking at all forms of training... When I was a client, they offered demonstrations and explanations so you can evaluate their methods.

If you want a happy and healthy relationship with your dog you WILL come here! They saved my GSD's life. He came to us unsocialized at two years old, and he was terribly fear aggressive - other forms of training made him worse.
Don't believe anyone who says collar training is harmful. PEOPLE are harmful - and those who misuse a collar, will misuse any other form of training too.

I have found that electric collars get a bad reputation because of inappropriate use. Sit Means Sit teaches using the collar as an attention getter like a tap on the shoulder - not as punishment. A lot of praise and positive reinforcement is recommended. The dogs are happy and excited to learn and to please. My experience and observation confirms how humane this collar can be if used correctly.

Initially we were not too keen on a dog training place that used an e-collar but I did sign up for their training as they came highly recommended by many, to give us the results that we were looking for. And at the end of 3 weeks of intense training I can say we made the best decision ever. Each and every trainer was amazing and ensured that we understood (really ensured) how they worked our dog . The training gave us the necessary tools for us to feel confident with our dog in different scenarios.....this was gold. Would highly recommend spending the days off between training (even if it is a few minutes) to go over the commands introduced to your dog and share your challenges/wins with the trainers ,before the next class. The trainers were ever willing to help with any questions and provide solutions. It was a commitment for sure but a very rewarding one ,both for us and our dog.

Clearly Phoebe has no experience with training collars. Our dog went to Sit Means Sit for training and I can't tell you how excited she gets when we get her collar out. Training for her is like play time and she loves it. I have tried the collar on personally and can tell you from first hand experience it does not hurt.

Investing in dog training at Sit Means Sit was the absolute best decision we made for our dog, Dahlia, and our family. It’s more than just training, they truly care for you and your dog. The owners and trainers are with you for every step, milestone or reteaching moment. Being a part of the Sit Means Sit community feels like family. Dahlia loves going to class and spending time at Sit Means Sit! She just turned a year old and gets compliments for her behavior wherever we go. My children are able to handle her 89lbs of love with ease. If you are looking for dog training with amazing results and a wonderful supportive community, Sit Means Sit is the place for you!

Absolutely love this training program. This is our second dog we’ve trained at Sit Means Sit. The Immersion Inn did wonders for Isabelle. She started the program constantly nipping, not listening to commands while excited and jumping. The jumping was the worst. She is still a puppy and has a lot of energy, but very obedient with our commands. I take her everywhere and people comment how well behaved she is.

Our dog,Henry, is a different dog now. All for the better. With the help of the 2 week immersion training we have learned so much as dog owners. We highly recommend this training for stubborn dogs. The cost was worth every penny.

(9/6/25) Updated Review: I wanted to provide an updated review on my Alaskan Malamute after training for the past 6 months. I wanted to sincerely thank the staff at Sit Means Sit. Shanti has been by far the most difficult dog I have ever owned. I think at this point, Shanti has worked with every trainer on the team in some capacity. There have been a few tears shed on my end, but the staff has been so patient and encouraging.
I’m so thankful to report that Shanti has been doing fantastic! He tolerates strangers without hiding, participates in group play at dog daycare and no longer reactively bites in high stress situations. We even were able to take him off leash to a beach this summer so he could play with his sibling and swim in the lake!!! We still have some work to do, but I’m so appreciative to Sit Means Sit. Many of Shanti’s siblings have been re-homed due to issues they were having. Sit means Sit helped us work through his challenges and the bond that Shanti and I have created because of all the work together is incredible! He has turned into such a loyal, fun loving and affectionate part of the family. He makes me laugh everyday and I’m so grateful we did not give up on each other.
Long review alert: We came across Sit Means Sit initially when my 6 year old Siberian Husky and my 2 year old Shepard/Husky mix started fighting. My Husky/Shepard was also leash reactive toward other dogs. We didn't realize at the time how valuable this training really was. Not only are the staff amazing, knowledgeable about dog behavior and incredibly friendly (I ask a lot of questions and they are very patient every time), but they were able to gift my dogs a quality of life that I guarantee they would not have gotten anywhere else. My Siberian husky was able to be off leash for the last 4 years of his life. One of his favorite things to do in the world was to run on my parents 40 acre farm as fast as he could. I was able to allow him to do that because of this training. I will never forget the smile he had on his face when he got done and for that I'm very thankful to Sit Means Sit.
When my two passed away unexpectedly due to cancer, I did not even hesitate to bring my puppies here. This time we started the program from puppy classes. What a game changer! The "puppy" stage does not last as long and my furniture and floorboards have been spared this time around. I currently have a more difficult Alaskan Malamute in the day train program, it has been 2 weeks and I'm already noticing a HUGE change in his aggressive tendencies, especially after my "pep talk" I got from Nick. My Mal also started playing with other dogs, which when we first had him he would cower in the corner.
We definitely have some work to do with our Mal, but I am confident we are going to be able to have our dogs travel with us everywhere like we were able to with our previous dogs. I'm very grateful to Sit Means Sit and it is so worth the investment!
(FYI, the collars do not hurt these dogs and the staff do know a lot about dog behavior)
