Sit Means Sit Dog Training Albuquerque

I spent about $4,000 on the longest board-and-train program offered here, and it was a complete waste of money. None of the issues I brought my dog in for were actually addressed. My main concern was leash pulling. During all three of the training sessions I had with them before taking her home, she was still pulling on the leash. She pulled when we got home, and months later she still pulls exactly the same. The only “solution” I was given was to keep increasing the level on the e-collar, which clearly wasn’t fixing the problem. I’m now working with a different trainer, and one of the first things they pointed out is that my dog appears to be constantly waiting for the e-collar correction instead of actually understanding the commands. That explains why she won’t reliably respond without it. They also claimed she learned “place” and would reliably stay there. That was not true. Even during the training session she repeatedly got off place and ran to the door. At home, she would get up every 10 seconds and wouldn't maintain place at all. She also won’t reliably hold a sit or a down. Clearly sit means get up and do what I want and not sit means sit. I ended up having to train those behaviors myself after bringing her home and did so with without the use of the ecollar. Another concern was how my dog was fed while she was there. I sent her with a 15.5 lb bag of food, and she eats 4 level cups per day. She was there for 17 days, so the bag should have lasted her entire stay. Instead, I was told she was running low on food by day 11 and needed more. When she came home, she weighed 8 pounds more than when I dropped her off, which was extremely concerning. Communication was also extremely poor. I was told I would receive daily updates and pictures while my dog was there for over two weeks. Instead, I received only two photos and one short video the entire time. I had planned to attend the group classes afterward, but my dog went into heat and couldn’t attend. Regardless, the reality is that the training itself clearly didn’t stick. The only thing my dog came home knowing was how to put her head in my hand while walking, which she now refuses to do anyway. I am now working with a different trainer who is actually addressing the problems I originally paid Sit Means Sit to fix, and the difference in both results and communication is night and day. If you’re considering spending thousands of dollars here, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This program did not deliver what was promised.

Outstanding experience here all around! I was initially very skeptical on spending the amount of money for a 2 week day time training course, but it proved to be worth it. From our initial evaluation with Andrea through the final day of training every interaction here was a positive one. Each of the trainers we worked with deserve 5 stars for their talents. As an instructor (in a different field) I understand what it takes to be a good instructor. We worked with Lynn, Jean, Christian, and Lamont 1 on 1 for lessons (and I know that more of the staff worked with our dog), but each of these instructors was well versed, confident, proficient, and professional in their craft. Dog owners (parents) have to understand that it is not just their dog that needs training, but the owner as well. Sit Means Sit combines both key elements of training the dog and their owners. Practice and consistency is required at home, but they send you home with the tools you need to confidently handle your best friend. We look forward to the future group classes, and one on one lessons here.
