About Service Dogs for Veterans

Our goal here at SD4V is to build strong Veteran and service dog teams that will have a positive impact on the Veteran's quality of life. We complement the traditional treatment for Veterans with PTSD, TBI, and MST, by training them and their dog to become highly effective ADA compliant service dog teams. Each of our Veterans has a story that brought them to us. By working alongside these Warriors, we help them write a new chapter of hope for a more promising future. Throughout a three phase program, the Veteran will be assisted by a Veteran Advocate for support and encouragement. Our program is intended to complement traditional treatments of PTSD, TBI, and MST, and is not intended to replace any current treatment plans in place.

Your mileage may vary. Overall SD4V is a well intended and beneficial organization that helps veterans with training a service dog. They have trainers that are very knowledgeable and supportive of their clients. One particular employee, Jim/James, seems to be very selective about his interactions with the organization's clients. Without explaining specifics to dissuade others from going here. Interactions with Jim may or may not make your experience with them acceptable. He seems to have the ear of the director/owner, so take that for what it's worth. Overall, SD4V has had great results with their graduating veterans. Though it should be noted, you'll rarely see organizations publicly share less than desirable results.

I cannot recommend SD4V enough. As a Veteran, finding a program that understands the unique challenges of PTSD is rare, but SD4V goes above and beyond. The trainers don't just give you a dog; they give you the tools and the confidence to build a partnership. This program has truly changed my life/the life of my family. Five stars isn't enough.
